Life's Purpose

This most recent book I have been reading has me thinking about what I write into my own story. Watch out! Yesterday I put out a fun new scent diffuser gift from my visiting teacher. The last time I tried one of these, two days later I was sneezing with a runny nose. My Mom was in town, and suggested it was the diffuser. We put it away, and amazingly three of us felt better quickly. So yesterday when I put it out, I heard myself say that I was going to be sick in two days, I woke up this morning with a runny nose. Watch out what you say - remember you're writing your own story.
Today's Sacrament meeting was super. Brother & Sister Wade spoke. Marcia and I switch off teaching Relief Society monthly. I have appreciated the time that I have had to learn from her - she is amazing! She shared story today about the three little pigs, and how the third little pig didn't cut the corners or go for the easy way, but stuck to his goal, and did the right thing even though it wasn't easy or fast. He worked hard, and in the end, he was the one who rescued his friends from the big bad wolf! I hope that I am willing to do the hard thing! She closed with a story about a rich man and his son. They traveled the world collecting artwork. The father's collection included Piccaso and Monet pieces. Then the son was called to go to war. One day the dreaded call came that he was missing in action. His son had been killed. Christmas morning of that year, a young man knocked on the father's door. He said that he had been with his son, and that he knew that he appreciated art. He said that he wasn't an artist, but that he wanted to give him something that he had worked hard on because his son had done so much in fact he had saved his very life just before he died! He handed the father a painting he had painted himself. The father was so touched, he missed his son so much, he thanked the young man, and hung the painting in the most prominent place in his home - above the fireplace mantle. A few years later, the father himself passed away. Art collectors from around the globe gathered for the auction of the prestigious collection. The auctioneered called them to order, and announced that as stipulated in the will, they would start with the painting of the son done by his friend. He opened the bidding at $100. no one offered that amount. He asked if he could get any money for this painting. One hand in the back, the father of the boy who had painted the painting, rose his hand, and offered $10 for the work. The auctioneer said "I have $10, do I have any other offers? Going once. Going twice, Gone for $10." The auctioneer folded up his papers and began to walk away. The collectors said "Stop, What about the other pieces in the collection?" To which the Auctioneer replied "He who accepts the son, receives all that the father hath." This father had purchased the entire collection for $10.
