President Hinckley Funeral

President Hinckley’s Funeral Notes
Bishop David Burton: Generations yet to come will be blessed by this man.
President Packer - One of the things President Hinckley understood best was family. Quotes from him about this subject are many – his family is Ideal!
They are not here - they have risen! This will be said of them in a day not far distant.
President Eyring – Things will work out. He was an optimist. Many problems he would work out himself. He was the one who sketched the design for the smaller temples which now bless people throughout the world. He was the one who saw a way out of poverty – he is the one who conceived of the conference center to hear the words of God. His legacy goes beyond these brief words, always to bless others with opportunity. He thought of those struggling, and sought to help those who were less fortunate. More than once, he would tap me, and say “Hal have you remembered the person who is struggling?” “It will work out!” God’s powers were in place. He knows to trust in God. He wanted so much to be in the temple in Rexburg Idaho. He thrilled to have families reunited together especially for those who have been separated by death. He is together with the girl of his dreams! They will be together forever! If only we make the choice to be true to our sacred covenants with God. Discouraged he received a letter from his Dad – “Forget yourself and go to work.” “He that loses his life for my sake shall find it.” He Promised God that day in prayer to “Do His Best!” When I look at those pictures, and think of where I am, I feel so inadequate. He began to weap. He had consecrated all he had and was to his Savior. Faith in his heart left no room for doubt or fear. No one was more aware of problems than he, and yet he would say “The best is yet to come!” He chose to put the gospel in his heart bygiving his Best all the time He more than hoped that things would work out, he went to work to make it happen. His example changed what I read – so I got a copy of the works of Shakespeare, and started reading it because that was what he liked to read! Henry the V. That’s a good place to start – to emphasis that there was much more to gain! Hal why don’t you do better about getting the gospel down into their hearts? He loved young people, and he knew the words of King Henry “Oh God of battle, steal my soldier’s hearts, if opposed numbers pluck their hearts from them…..” Consecrate our hearts to the Master! He was a true witness of Jesus Christ and of God, and as he said “The best is yet to come” as we take the gospel of Jesus Christ down into our hearts.
President Thomas S. Monson
Here and there and now and then, God makes a giant among men. President Hinckley was a giant! Of Love, testimony, compassion, vision! I miss him. We have shared much – heartache and sorrow, laughter and joy. 1964 Gunnison Ut stake –cuffs of his shirt were held together with paperclips. I teased him, and he said as a good Boy Scout President Hinckely had come prepared, and had an extra set, and he shared them. Waving of cane – please do me a favor – please have him use his came for walking! Tell him the cane was prescribed for walking, and is to be used for what it was prescribed. I told the Dr. he was the Dr., and he had to tell him!  We have a meeting in the temple on Thursday. During the cold winter months, President Hinckley always knew when were in the confines of the temple, he would remove his hat, even in the car in the parking lot, going to the temple meeting.
Sir Thomas Moore – steadfast in standing for his beliefs – A Man for All Seasons! Indeed – Heavenly Father has given us a Man for all Seasons of our own! President Hinckley has calmed us, guided us, and comforted us. President Hinckley was a prophet who went to the people – he went to the children, and their parents. “He increased in wisdom and in stature and went about doing good ….” President Hinckley has indeed been with him! As long as I live, I will cherish the last visit to his him, we provided a blessing, accompanied by all his family members – the vail was thin. He was being summoned to his home. General RS meeting – fro 66 years we have walked together hand in hand, withlove and encouragement with appreciation and respect. I hope the other will follow soon – I just would not know how to get along without her, and I hope that she would not know how to get along without me. He missed her everyday – every moment! They have now had a great reunion! He his on a heavenly mission to others who await his influence – I have not greater joy than to know that my children walk in love and truth! His spirit has simply gone home to that God who gave him life! Where ever I go in this wide world, a part of him will go with me! God be with you ‘till we meet again! Put His arms unfailing round you! God be with you till we meet again!
In conference, he said those si mple words – I’ve sung those words with people around the world! On memorable occasions on all the continents of the world. I’ve sung them with missionaries, with soldiers, in these parting words – God bless you my dear friends!
What a beautiful presentation of pictures followed this with a song with words written by President HinckleyI I only wish I could read them – I will find them so I can contemplate and partake fully of the message he wrote into that beautiful song!

Beautiful Temples! A tremendous undertaking! Their cost is much more than that of a temple! The represent the ultimate in our worship! Were it not for the work done in temples, the very purpose of this life on earth would be nullified!
This week has been a week of miracles! The weather in SLC has mirrored the wrapping of love that our Prophet has for us! It has snowed everyday, but today, Saturday the day of services for him, it is clear and beautiful! My Mom lives on the benches in the Salt Lake Valley – today she can see clear to Antelope Island. It is beautiful and clear – this is an act of God. A tribute to the Prophet of the Lord! I recognize that each of us is a son or daughter of God who loves us. He was a true torphet, sear and revelator!
Mother and Dad were a magical team – they were different in their styles, in their background! Mother thought Dad was the sun, the moon, and the stars! Unique and remarkable! My parents always loved each other! Watching my father be alone, we have realized the tremendous void he has left!
President Hinckley was a lifelong advocate of learning! Only one thing that dulls the luster of this occasion is the lack of his sweetheart – Marjorie. This was at the dedication of his building at BYU.
“We are all totally in the hands of the Lord!” Favorite Scripture of President Hinckley: D&C be thou humble, and the Lord thy God shall give thee answer to thy prayers! Running through all has been a dominant of thread – of testimony of the Lord. I was looking for a specific formula, I went to a meeting that he was speaking at, he bore his testimony, I understood that all I needed to do was to live the gospel in a way that my children could look to as an example. Remember that on this day, you heard me bare my witness= it was not imaginary! It was real! The Priesthood has been restored, all the keys of authority are excercised in this church! Joseph Smith was and is a prophet! The church which carries the name of the Savior is true! I leave my testimony it is true in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
The Hinckley family has remained unaffected by the exposure of their family to the world. Both Gordon and Marjorie didn’t want attention – adulation is poison, he didn’t want others to speak of him. I wonder what he would say?
President Hinckley loved the British Isles, and the music that accompanied them. President Hinckley loved the bag pipes. Danny boy, and Praise to the Man.
Beautiful bright sunshine noted by the broadcasters! Yes – Heaven his smiling on this day! It has snowed very day – wrapping a white (symbol of love, cleanliness, charity, and compassion) blanket over the earth!
He has planted black walnut trees. Pulpit – significance of – is this the first funeral in the conference center? I believe so – President Faust’s was not televised, Dad attended with Grandpa in the tabernacle.
Three quotes on the back of his funeral program:
Pioneer Day Commemoration – never adopt a holier than thou , we can keep our faith, we can cherish plead for a spirit of tolerance, neighborly and love towards those of other faiths.
May 2007 May there be peace and harmony in your homes, wives, encourage and pray for your parents, children, treat your parents with great kindness.
I don't know what the third quote was, but many commented that all three quotes were powerful and family related.

I am grateful to have lived under the guidence of President Gordon B. Hinckley. I am so grateful that my children have had the opportunity to come to know and love him. I smile at the thought of the night we learned that President Hinckley passed away. Jed's phone started ringing - his friends 1st told him to dress up on Monday to honor him, then they invited him to come to the Temple to sing songs that night. He had a final early Monday morning, and so he didn't go to the temple, but we all dressed up on Monday. It was fun to learn that all across the nation young people dressed up in unity to support their Prophet. It has been a wonderful week. Hard, but wonderful to talk about our wonderful prophet!
