Happy Birthday to our Law Office!

Two years ago on June 1st, 2006 we were on our own! Today, Monday June 2nd we celebrated the 2nd Birthday of our office open!

Two years ago in writing our business plan, I wrote:
6. What are your realistic sales goals for your first year?
For the first 2 years we have been warned to brace for the worst! We don’t know what the client base will be, and this will be largely dependant on what happens with the proposal to purchase the current case load from DeBry. If this can happen, then this greatly changes the future possibilities of what happens. If this doesn’t happen, we will not have to invest the cash upfront to buy out Bob DeBry, but will rather use those funds to survive the first several months when our case load will not be as great.

Then for a the self-assessment portion of our business plan, I wrote about myself:
On My list of weaknesses:
#1 Good People Judgment - I gave myself a low score here because I think far too often, I assume people see things as I do, and I make judgments based on wrong assumptions. I need to learn to give people the benefit of the doubt, and recognize that we are not all experiencing life from the same canoe! I too have found several instances in the past week where I have said “I will practice better people judgment and not be critical here.” I wrote “I will not read too much into the actions of others, but rather I will reach out to be a friend to all!”

#2 Low Support Needs – I don’t want to be a “high maintenance” person! I love to get a noon phone call from Brad! He also calls close to 5 p.m. each evening. I hope that he knows that I love to be with him, and I am grateful for his support and help, and yet I don’t want to tie him up, and squelch the fun out of life because I am so needy! He is so good to me! Thanks Bradley! This new venture will demand more time and commitment that we have had to give since law school. We made it through those years, we can do this!

#3 Self Confidence – I believe that 90% of women struggle with this trait. Especially this month of Mother’s Day as women we are critical of ourselves, and we should not be. I want to have the faith in God and divine confidence to go forward and do those things I was sent here to do! I will have the confidence to stand up and lead out for righteousness, and reach out to others as a true friend!

Through all of this, Brad and I recognize that there is much to learn, and many ways to improve. We are anxious for this challenge. We have a slogan at our house…. “You don’t learn much sitting in the easy chair!” This venture may not be easy, but we are sure we will learn lots in the process!
