Get Ready Get Set Play!!!!
Friday night we rented the Ranch House at Clear Creek Ranch and invited all our employees and their families to join us! We planned lots of activities! We were a bit disappointed that it was not better supported, but we didn't let that stop our fun! I had great intentions of being on the road to the Ranch by noon, however I didn't get out the door until around 2:30p.m.. We arrived at Clear Creek about 2 hours later, so this meant that we didn't start games until after 5:00p.m.. We had fun playing some team-building activities. We played the 2x4 shuffle, golf with PVC pipes and 6 people/team, tag, etc. Then we had dinner. We opted to do our own food, and I am grateful. They were going to charge us $30/person, and we had to pay two weeks ahead. Two weeks ago, we thought everyone was coming. It was not until just days before that we started hearing that people weren't coming. As such, we made adjustments, and didn't waste quite as much as we would have. It was not a cheap summer party, but we wanted it to be something special! We wanted it to be a nice event! It was! The Ranch house sleeps some 35 people in 5 bedrooms and has a large kitchen, family room, and 2 bathrooms. Each family that came had their own room. Originally B and I were going to be on the floor but because of no shows, everyone was on beds.
The agenda for the event was:
There are only a few games listed there that we didn't play. The barn dance turned out only being our group, but we were surprized by the talent of S and L in dancing. I regret that I can't post the pictures today because I sent the camera with B, and forgot to download the pictures first. I hope that he doesn't delete them while he is at camp.
Late that night we showed the movie October Sky in the pavillion on a tarp, and had many extras join the fun. A and his family didn't make it up there until around 9:30 p.m.. The missed the dance, but got there for the movie.
Then the next morning, B and I were up a little before 6:00 a.m., and went for a walk and canoe ride on the pond. We wandered back around 6:30, and L and S were just leaving - S had to work on Saturday. No one else stirred until about 7:30a.m. or so.
D.C. was assigned morning exercise. He lead streches, and then taught us how to play football soccer. As all the other groups wandered up to breakfast in the pavillion, our group was running, laughing and participating on the grass in the early morning pleasant temperatures. We had a really fun time! Then we served scones, and fruit (which I had cut that morning, while B ran to get the syrup that I forgot). One bag of 72 dinner rolls - flattened, and stretched, cooked as scones, were very tasty! We had 3 or 4 left, which were eaten later after the rocket activity.
B called everyone together after breakfast, and we talked about the 7 habits, L and I taught the hand signs. B lead a discusssion about October Sky, and each character's courage, willingness to try, goals, etc. We tied them in to the 7 habits, and then C.C. presented a fabulous book she discovered titled 212 degrees. She took a few minutes, and then showed the video clip. You can view it at: B shared statistics he heard at Timberline that only 5% of us have goals. Of those only 15% of them have written their goals down. However 98% of the goals that are written down, reach that goal! So if you want to reach something, write it down! We know that it time to write new goals for the office. Frankly it was nice to have the 90 minutes travel time out there to talk about our goals. We were stuck in the car, and couldn't clean the house, prepare for the next adventure, answer the phone, change the diaper, etc. etc. We got to just talk about our goals! It has been two years, and the three year plan that we wrote at the onset of our office has nearly all been reached! 99% of our goals have been met, and the others we expect will in the next few months. Wow!
Following this nice discussion we made paper rockets. B and J rigged a really cool launcher patterned after the one B.A. had at Timberline. It launched paper rockets up there a long way! After that we lost two families - it was still before noon. We thought it was too bad that we had arranged for this weekend, and yet even those who took us up on paying for their food and lodging, didn't stay too long. It's ok!
D. and C. stayed for the day (although K., their daughter didn't come - she choose to go to Youth Conference with the Ward she lives in - that is a good choice - I certainly can't blame her, but we missed her!) We played waterballon volleyball, had canoe races on the lake, enjoyed long talks about the past and future of the office, and of our families, and enjoyed a nice lunch with way too much food!! It was a beautiful weekend! I am so grateful for C. and D.! They are truely "Quality" people! I am so grateful to associate with them!
We really didn't watch the clock, and before we knew it, it was about 4:30p.m.. We packed up, checked out, and headed home. Thunderstorms were brewing to the North, and we tried to stall to see the waterfalls off the cliffs, however we knew of other upcoming activities, and made our way home. We will remember this weekend as a quality time with good friends! We will treasure the memories! S. says her favorite part was the waterballoon volleyball game. C. really liked the canoes with all the boys out there! (L. went in first, but all of Sr team, and S. ended up there!)
Thanks for a fun weekend! It was really great! I will post a slide show when B. brings the camera home in a week. :)
