Last Lecture

What would you say if it were your last lecture?

I was introduced to Mr. Randy Pausch's Last Lecture by our good friend, Cheryl Christensen. Mr. Pausch shares some great ideas. You can watch his Last Lecture at this link: http://www.thelastlecture.com/
(I do note that some of his language makes me uncomfortable.)

We listened to the lecture on CD's while on a get-away in Colorado. One of the four didn't work, but we loved the others. Mr. Pausch has lots of good advice!

1st - Have a Childhood Dream! What are yours?

"Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted."
Mr Pausch called it Head Fake Learning.

"Brick walls are there for a reason: They let us prove how badly we want things." Some walls are made of flesh!

"Wait long enough and people will almost always surprise and impress you."

"It's very good to know when you are in a pissing match, and very good to get out of it quick!"

"Think about how they said it!" There is a good way and a bad way to say things! Find the good way!

I can tell you if the world is good, if they (the team members) are standing close to each other when it begins.

The Key to Success = Freedom! Let them have the reigns!

The best gift an educator can give is to get someone to become self reflective. We did bar charts with 15 factors of how they stacked up against their peers.

Final notes:
Decide where you stand: Are you a Tigger or an Eeyore?
Never lose the child-like wonder.
Help Others. People who come from big families know how to get along!
Remember:
Brick walls let us know our dedication.
Don't bail the best gold is at the bottom of barrels of crap.
Get a feedback loop, and LISTEN to it! (Can be a spreadsheet or one smart man) Cherish it and use it!
Show Gratitude.
Don't complain; just work harder.
Be good at something, it makes you valuable
work hard..."What's your secret?"
Find the best in everybody; no matter how long you have to wiat for them to show it. You might have to wait a long time, but people will show you their good side. No one is all evil. It will come out.
Be prepared: "Luck" is where preparation meets opportunity.

Lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, the dreams will come to you!

Finally: What did I do with the months I had left?

Marta: What did I do with today?

From "Finish Strong"
Life is 10 percent what you make it, and 90 percent how you take it." Irving Berlin.
How will you take the choice before you? Finish Strong! Most of us have far more courage then we ever dreamed we have. Dale Carnege

To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. Anatole France.
My mohter taught me very early to believe I could achieve any accomplishment I wanted to.
Attitude: "How you respond to the challegne in the second half will determine what you become after the game... whether you are a winner of a loser." Lou Holtz
"It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters." Epictetus
Purpose - nothing changes until something moves.
