We have just returned from a week in Salt Lake. We went up last Tuesday to Jed's State Tournament game(s). Tuesday night they played Mt. View coached by J.G. (related by marriage through L). It was fun earlier in the season for J. to find J. in the Dixie HS gym, there scoping out our team! I understand that he wanted to come obscure, and accused L. of telling us he was coming. No. J. found him in the gym, and knew right who he was because of their interaction at BYU. It is a small world! After many years of frustrations (common we are sure) with team sports, the season ended sadly Tuesday night. Needless to say speechless is better!
It seemed hours after the game, we followed the team in their District vans to downtown SLC before J. could breakaway and we could finally embrace him. I will forever have implanted in my heart the hug in the parkinglot of the Marriot Courtyard, where our family team was reunited! B, J, L, C and myself embraced and offered a prayer of loyalty to each other. In the midst of struggle, it felt good to reunite the basic unit of life - our family!
Thank you to all the family and friends who made the journey to the E-Center to support J! It is difficult with new rules imposed on myself in this forum to not just name each in attendance, I will not. For our memories V&KP, CP (with great effort - Thanks VP for getting him there!), KL, BL, D&HS, SS & ES, from the P. side of the family.
On the H side - B&JH, J&JH, J&SH. And AT from our ward who was working in Provo and drove the extra hour to come support J.! Thank you so much!
We also know that on the opposite side of the floor sat other family members L & M&BP, and some grandkids. We didn't get to greet them, but waved across the floor midgame.
Enough on this hard evening. I dreaded all week coming home to the "State Champ 2009" written on J's mirrors in his bathroom and bedroom! Heartache is not easy. What lessons are we supposed to be learning? We know and learned again this week that in the end the true team is the Family Team! I pray that as a family we can always be there for each other! I learned that my sister was my best friend my senior year. J. has been grateful to his siblings for all their support. It felt so good to embrace my Sr. Team there in the parking lot, and commit to always give our BEST EFFORT in pursuing our goals! J. did give his best effort! He can't help when they won't put him in! He wanted to! He played hard, and was severly disappointed! The struggles of team sports! Not the lead, following someone else. Frustrations.
Family. We will support, love, help, and be loyal! To ETERNITY AND BEYOND!
