This morning I got to attend the temple with B. I love to go early in the morning. I remember my parents going early in the morning when I was a girl. Now I am the parent sneaking out well before the sun rises to attend the temple.
I want to start a tradition in my family that we attend the temple together! This morning there were several parents and children in the temple together. I loved the thought of that! I mentioned that it is too bad that we only gather for spiritual things when it is a major family function - a baptism, baby blessing (these are the stages the children of my siblings).

My kids have a tradition of going to do Baptisms for the Dead the week of general conference. I have not been a part of this experience in the temple, I have been the babysitter home taking part of Jr. team.
I have long had a hard time with a ward temple night because it feels like a worthiness statement of who is and who is not worthy to be there. Some sort of popularity, campaigning for church position. B. and I have not attended ward temple night in some time. This is in part because of the attitude of being there to be seen of men, but also because our ward temple nights always seem to be the early sessions - this week it is Thursday at 6:00 p.m.. Besides the fact that we have four other directions we are supposed to be running by 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, what about being at the cross roads for our children? We do our best to have dinner together. A temple session takes about 2 1/2 hours. So when you go to the 6:00 session, you need to be on the way to the temple at 5:30, and you get out by 8:30 - home by 9:00 just in time to miss all my kids! They try to be in bed by 9. That means I miss all the time with them. For this season of my life, it works much better when I get up early and attend the temple in the early morning hours. This morning we were able to be back before J. and L. had to leave for school. We didn't have long with them, but we said prayers and sent them on their way.
I learned last night that they want to ordain J. an Elder before June when some of his graduating class will be leaving to attend school in other places. I wasn't ready for this news! How can he be that old? It won't be long before he will be entering the temple to do endowments. Wow! I think it would be so cool to have a tradition of attending the temple twice a year all together - I don't know like in May and then in October? A Friday night date tradition or should we attend the Wednesday morning session all together.:) I don't know that it has to be set in stone when but, I want it to be solid enough that it happens!
