3rd Grade curriculum! I tease Samuel that he just turned 7, but in reality he just turned 9! How did that happen? I love him so much!
I thought I would post a couple of homeschool favorite secrets:
1st - this is a great website by a homeschooling Mom in SLC titled "The Math Worksheet Site". Produce your own math sheets in seconds! I like to print them double sided with as many as possible on a page! We think it's fun to have races against each other once a young person masters that level to compete against other siblings!
2nd - Before I really had children old enough to attend school, we were invited to participate in a homeschooling co-op with some amazing Moms who taught me many secrets for which I will be eternally grateful! One was the power of dual language in the home - something I have NOT figured out. But two, we learned the power of memorizing! Every day they worked on memorizing something. It was because of that group that I believed that J. could memorize all the Articles of Faith, which he did by the age of 4 - something that some never do! We also found fun poems to memorize. One of those poems was this one about George Washington which my Jr. team is working on memorizing this week with our studies:
George Washington
George Washington was a giant of a man.
Over six feet tall he stood
He was a patient, gentle man,
All of him was good.
He kept his man together,
Although they suffered cold and mud,
This tall man walked among them,
And warmed their hearts with love.
In pitch darkness and grinding ice,
He crossed the Delaware.
And in the snow at Valley Forge,
This tall man knelt in prayer.
Here is another favorite poem we have memorized from a Feature Film for Families: Can I hear the music? I will try hard to be grateful for opportunities to stop and listen.
Behind the Waterfall
If you can’t hear the music of cricket and owl,
And the wind isn’t telling you the answer.
If you look to the sky and see only cloud,
To the forest and see only tree,
Play me.
I will open your eyes and your heart,
Once again you will see all the wonder,
Of the cricket, the owl, the sky, and the tree,
And the wind born song of the maker.
With faith you see you are never alone,
And someone cares will always be there.
One wish of the heart,
a child’s simple faith,
each heard the same,
if you pray
and believe.
Quick Quote for tonight:
"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square hole. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."
