May 6th is a significant day in my life! I was born on this day, baptized on this day, and married on this day! 20 years ago today I was sealed in the Holy Temple of the Lord to BCH! I am so grateful for the adventures of the past 20 years!
Today was no exception! We decided to take the boat to the lake and get a practice swim in for the Tri this weekend. We couldn't leave until after L finished a private piano lesson from 9-10 so around 11 we pulled into the lake. When we got to the ranger station, we turned off the rig because our State Park pass was in the truck, not with us! We asked if we could please apply the $10 charge to the purchase of a year pass which would expire a year from when our other one does. The two rangers not so kindly informed us "Only if you do it TODAY!" Turning the rig back on, Brad shrugged and said he didn't know if we would make it back out there. We actually drove two cars to the lake, leaving one outside the park, and down the road past the "No Parking for the next 3 1/2 miles" signs so J and L could leave at 1 to go to seminary. When we started the rig, the starter didn't turn right over, it went "chug, chug..." Brad expressed concern, but we shrugged it off as being the first time it had sounded like that (since it went out completely at the dump) and it started. We went into the park, prepared the boat for this first time out, and put everyone but me into the boat! I backed them down into the water, and went to park, and then joined them in the boat. J. was anxious to have a wakeboard turn, as it was now close to noon, and his time was short. As soon as we were out of the wakeless zone, he jumped in with his board. He got right up and cleared the wake, loosing the handle in the first jump of the year. We circled, he got up, and jumped again, dropping the handle, but landing beautifully! Circling the third time, he questioned why the bilge was pumping like crazy. B. thought it was the shower had not been turned off under the back seat. He checked there, noticing water in the bottom, but couldn't find the reason. Lifting the hatch, he quickly said we needed to urgently get off the lake! J. climbed in quick, and B. headed for the dock, NOT wanting to even slow for the wakeless zone. I told him the water was not on the carpet yet, we had time to get there, he slowed a bit, but still urgently headed to shore! Upon reaching the dock, I jumped quick to get the rig... you guessed it! It wouldn't start! I ran back to the boat telling them I couldn't come get them! Meanwhile, B was further investigating the problem. We needed to get the boat off the lake! I asked J to come take the THIRD starter out of the rig so we could get a new one once again! We bought this starter some 17 months ago from Auto Zone - it has a "Lifetime Warrantee" - GREAT! They don't tell you is you will have to replace it every 6 weeks, and of course in the most convenient places! I ran out of the park, down the road in my flip flops to get J's jeep! Paying once again at the friendly (NOT!) station, I raced up to disconnect the rig from the trailer, connect it to the jeep, to get the boat out of the water! Remember, during the past year J has put a new 747 engine in it, it is probably the most powerful car we own, we just prayed that the simple ball on his bumper wouldn't pull right off! It worked!
B, J, & L piled into the jeep with the starter J had removed, and headed into Auto Zone and Seminary! I spent the better part of the afternoon at the lake with Jr. team! We had a great time playing in the water, finding bugs, and then we helped set up the Transition area with B. of BBSC for the Tri on Saturday! B. came back with the starter around 3, put it in (I'm soooo grateful he is so good at everything!) and we took the boat to the shop! I tried to trade the parking passes (we now had 3 for the day) in for the annual pass, and the ownery ranger was sooo pleasant - NOT! We came home, and washed the rig and truck inside and out! Wow - that was a cool idea! Then we took all the kids and went to dinner at the Pizza Factory!
At the end of today's adventure, I am grateful to climb into bed with the cars all in the garage, and the boat at the shop instead of on the bottom of the lake! Another adventure to remember! :)
Here's a little peak at the joys of the past 20 years together!
