On My Honor I will Do My Best to do my Duty...

So much of life is running from one appointment to another, trying to fill our buckets, to make sure we don't miss out on the "fun" things of life! When I started homeschooling some 13 years ago, some said that I should not because my kids would be socially backwards! They argued that they would not get to attend Prom, or Homecoming. I now stand at the end of 13 years of the most wonderful memories together with my young man! I am so grateful I didn't listen to those voices that tried to tell me I had to stand where everyone else was standing... Just BECAUSE! I am so grateful to have a wonderful husband and parents who have supported me in STANDING where I felt inspired to STAND!

I have long believed that as women we each hide ourselves in our own four walls, trying to appear when the doors opens that we are "put together" but when the door closes, that's who we really are. I believe that as women, we think that the neighbor next door always is more put together, organized, stronger than we are! I grew up in Utah for most of my growing up years, but I have lived out of state a couple of times. When we moved to Memphis, TN, I was shocked at how many people stopped their car at the curb to get out and take the short two steps to the mail box, to jump back into their car, raise the garage door, drive the car into the garage, and put the door back down before they got out of the car! They totally shut themselves into their own world, as if the air outside was contaminated and deadly. We were fortunate while in Memphis to attend Law School to not live on campus. We had worked hard for years prior to that to save money so we could make it through with as few loans as possible. We were fortunate to buy a home there, and thereby qualify for resident tuition. That meant that our little family of five - HUGE for Memphis - had a different law school experience! Who am I kidding, every education experience is unique! We moved to Memphis in August, and learned that people who had lived in that little circle had never met each other. It was fun to watch the nature of that circle change as the doors were opened, neighbors started talking to each other, and by the spring, we held a really fun easter egg hunt in the circle with all the neighboring busy streets coming to participate. Now years later, we hear they are still holding the hunt every spring! What changed? When we recognize that are each struggling with battles, yes each is unique, but we are all struggling! We don't have be alone! We can stand together! As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I have learned that we have more in common with those around us than we are different. I know that were all all God's children here on this life, doing our best in this test called Life. He loves us and doesn't want us to fail! He has said that we need to Knock and he will open the door! We have to Tri (try)!

The Boy Scout Promise says:
"On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight."

It is because I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that I am involved with the Boy Scouts of America. I am grateful to be associated with an organization that puts our first duty to God. I love to do my duty to God! He gives me sooo much! Our second duty is to our Country. When I help my neighbor, I am helping my country.

I love being a Mom! I am so grateful to be home with them, to be brave enough to homeschool, and have quality time together! Time is precious!
