Why Tri?

This Mother's day weekend was also the St. George Triathlon! We sponsor the Tri series (of 3) here in St. George, and this event kicks it off for the year! We help run registration on Friday for the 1200 athletes, and then we have several participate in the race on Saturday. This year we didn't have many, five from my family and then my awesome parents! Mom turns 60 next month, but she did a great job on the Tri! We like the Tri because it's not as hard on your body as just running, the multi-sport demand stretches different muscles for each event, thus reducing the drain on a particular set of muscles.

Everyone competes for a different reason. Last week Elder Bednar spoke to Institute students regarding the challenges of this life. He talked about what the enemy of all righteousness doesn't have - a body! He said that there were so many ways that he can tempt us to fall away by abusing our body - because he is jealous that he doesn't get one! He went on to talk about other kinds of temptations like pornography, etc., but I was impressed that one way that he is tempting many right now is by this drain on quality time spent training for extreme events! Ironman races are so popular right now, Ragnar Races(team running events over 178 miles), marathons, etc. take time from families and are breaking them apart! I train in a different way! I train WITH my family! We go together! This weekend at the tri I felt selfish for leaving Jr. team home with a sitter! It was a nice race, I did it with my Mom - a Mother's day gift I suppose! She doesn't like to start last, and then be at the end all alone. So we went together. She placed for her class! She is pretty happy with it! In the end, I am grateful to Tri hard things, and to know that with the help of my Heavenly Father I can get through hard challenges. Like climbing mountains, I have summited and crossed many finish lines, feeling the satisfaction of reaching goals! I am thankful for amazing Heavenly help! Why Tri... Because I can and when I do, He helps me!

The wind was blowing so hard on Sat. morning, they cancelled the swim portion, and had us do the 5K run twice with the bike in the middle! M&D weren't too happy about that! The run is their least favorite part!
J. took 2nd although we think that the one that beat him started with the Elite heat giving him a 5-10 minute lead! C. took 6th in the same division! They did great! L. had a good race for her.
We didn't get any pictures, M had her camera, but I didn't get them downloaded before they headed for home late Saturday afternoon. I appreciate that they don't travel on Sunday, setting a good example for my little ones! They are active in their ward, and so they headed home right after the Tri to get there.

Saturday evening B & I went to dinner with leaders from the Stake and Bloomington Bishops at the Beehive house. It was a nice evening with a barber shop quartet for entertainment, dinner and nice company. It was nice to get to know new people!
