My Sr. team returned from EFY at BYU this past week, and I found their notebook open last night to the page on the Standard of Family. I love the quote at the top of the page:
“The family unit is fundamental … to our hope for eternal life. We begin to practice in the family, the smaller unit, what will spread to the Church and to the society in which we live in this world, which will then be what we practice in families bound together forever by covenants and by faithfulness. We can start now to ‘promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family.’ I pray that we will. I pray that you will ask, ‘Father, how can I prepare?’ Tell him how much you want what he desires to give you. You will receive impressions, and if you act on them, I promise you the help of the powers of heaven” (“The Family,” Liahona, Oct. 1998, 23; Ensign, Feb. 1998, 18).
Tell Him "how much I want what he desires to give" to me?! Wow, I do want what he has to give to me. If I ACT on my impressions, he promises me the help of the powers of HEAVEN! I pray that my impressions will be righteous, that I may be continually in TUNE with His promptings! I so need the powers of heaven!
Last night there was a meeting with all the Ma's and Pa's and the Youth Leaders for the upcoming (huge drum roll!!!) Youth Conference. After finding myself in trouble with the BSA people regarding these Eagle projects, I have been doing my best to be so careful about not directing these projects, but allowing, standing by and observing and allowing the boys to do their work. Miracles are abundant! Last night I did ask one boy to conduct and lead out in the Oath and the Law, and then to find a prayer. I stood and explained that these were NOT my projects that I had in my posession a list of all the adult leaders for the families of 10-12 kids for the activity. I asked that they would please join the Stake Leaders on Saturday morning for a prayer meeting at 8:15, and that they will then be onsite ready for the participants by 8:45, and that they would then remember their first duty is to God, to begin the time with a prayer. I handed the leader lists, and told them to write down their phone numbers and information, and that they were then to be in the meeting happening down the hall in a little while. I was still in the YW room answering questions about the logistics of Saturday when they brought word that it was time to talk about the service project. It took me a few minutes to break away, but I walked down the hall to find all the Eagle scouts lined up at the front of the room, sharing a summary of their project and then they introduced themselves and asked the Ma's and Pa's they were assigned to raise their hands indicating they would contact them about arrangements for Saturday morning. I was soooo thrilled! They did so awesome!
We need the powers of heaven in all that we do! Thank you for helping me!
