Question of the Day

As a result of the training I experienced last week, I have a goal to identify a "Question of the Day" to ponder. Yesterday B. outlined our family question:

How does Satan use advertising today to tempt us to veer from the Word of Wisdom?

"We are called mortal beings because in us are seeds of death, but in reality we are immortal beings, because there is also within us the germ of eternal life. Man is a dual being, composed of the spirit which gives life, force, intelligence and capacity to man, and the body which is the tenement of the spirit and is suited to its form, adapted to its necessities, and acts in harmony with it, and to its utmost capacity yields obedience to the will of the spirit. The two combined constitute the soul. The body is dependent upon the spirit, and the spirit during its natural occupancy of the body is subject to the laws which apply to and govern it in the mortal state." Chapter 10: Jesus Christ Redeems All Mankind from Temporal Death,” Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph F. Smith, 86

So how obedient is my spirit?

A few thoughts I need to record from SS:
1st remember President A's comments at EFY referencing 2 Kings 6:6 They that be with thee are more than they that be with them. When he said that, I was sitting on a little hill off to the side, worried about the coming testimony meetings, and the weather problems. I will forever remembering looking heavenward, and sensing the heaven's opening, and the armies of heaven coming to stand guard to protect these young people, and allow them the opportunity to experience the testimonies that were and would be shared that night! Powerful! I will forever remember that feeling!

D&C 6:23 - Did I not speak peace to your mind? How many times has this been my own personal message? Marrying B. Loan concerns. Yesterday my scriptures just opened to this page. I have long tried to NOT mark my scriptures because when they are marked then when the page opens, your eyes go immediately to that passage, and it is not as easy to feel guided to find the message for THAT day. This is the case with this verse. There have been times in my life when I have searched for this verse, and not been able to remember where to find it. It was in the past six months, I didn't persevere long enough to locate it. Yesterday, we were to turn to another verse, but my eye caught on the page on verse 23 clear over the page from the verse 36 that we were looking for. I needed verse 23 just for me! I am grateful that it wasn't marked so I would stumble upon it, and know it was a message I needed today!

I am grateful for the power of peace! I was feeling overwhelmed with the enormity of coming projects. I know with the help of heaven, we will accomplish the things that we have been commanded! He has spoken peace to my mind!

D&C 6:36 was the verse Bro M wanted us to read - Look unto me in every thought! Why do some believe we can't take the little details to the Lord? He knows those little details could destroy the entire plan! He will help us with the details of our lives! Thank you Father!

D&C 84:33 Sanctified. What does it mean to be sanctified? I want this.
D&C 93:33-34 Receive a fullness of light. See also verses 31-32 and the quote I posted yesterday regarding light.

Helaman 3:35 "Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God."
This scripture just opened to this page. What constitutes a fast? I have long said that food was over-rated. If a fast is going without food, and extending your heart to God to help you in your time of need, then I was certainly not eating, pouring my heart out when we did EFY and the result was just as this scripture says... I was filled with joy and consolation! I am so grateful for his patience in teaching me!
This week I was often amazed at the priority placed by some on food. Meal time was of utmost importance to some. What do I value too high?

I want to yield my heart to God! I will trust in Him. I want to be submissive and teachable. Mosiah 4:12 Rejoice and be filled with the Love of God.
Mosiah 4:15 Teach my children to walk in the ways of truth.
Mosiah 4:21 He gives us whatsoever ye ask that is right.

I was so slammed yesterday with returning from a week long out and about, I'm not sure where Sunday went!

This morning began with a beautiful start with a run over the hills! B & I watched the sun rise, and enjoyed a few minutes to start the day together.

Today's question we determined, stems from the same SS lesson B studied for yesterday. The manual included this quote from President Brigham Young:

President Brigham Young said: “Instead of doing two days’ work in one day, wisdom would dictate to [the Saints] that if they desire long life and good health, they must, after sufficient exertion, allow the body to rest before it is entirely exhausted. When exhausted, some argue that they need stimulants. … But instead of these kind of stimulants they should recruit by rest” (Discourses of Brigham Young, sel. John A. Widtsoe [1941], 187).
How does this relate to my theme quote from President Henry B. Eyring (I have quoted it here so many times - Sorry!)
"Draw Closer to God pg. 94-95:
"If you want to get revelation, do your homework... The good works that really matter require the help of heaven. And the help of heaven requires working past the point of fatigue so far that only the meek and lowly will keep going long enough. The Lord doesn't put us through this test just to give us a grade; he does it because the process will change us."

How about this quote from Elder D. Todd Christofferson, “The Power of Covenants,” Ensign, May 2009, 19–23:
"It is the Holy Ghost that reveals how you may clear the next seemingly insurmountable hurdle. It is by the Holy Ghost in you that others may feel the pure love of Christ and receive strength to press forward. It is also the Holy Ghost, in His character as the Holy Spirit of Promise, that confirms the validity and efficacy of your covenants and seals God’s promises upon you.5

Divine covenants make strong Christians. I urge each one to qualify for and receive all the priesthood ordinances you can and then faithfully keep the promises you have made by covenant. In times of distress, let your covenants be paramount and let your obedience be exact. Then you can ask in faith, nothing wavering, according to your need, and God will answer. He will sustain you as you work and watch. In His own time and way He will stretch forth his hand to you, saying, “Here am I.”"
This whole talk is amazing! Check out the link to this actual write-up in the Ensign because it included Notes at the end that were not actually given in conference but are sooo powerful! Check this out, he writes:
"Some see only sacrifice and limitations in obedience to the commandments of the new and everlasting covenant, but those who live the experience—who give themselves freely and unreservedly to the covenant life—find greater liberty and fulfillment. When we truly understand, we seek more commandments, not fewer. Each new law or commandment we learn and live is like one more rung or step on a ladder that enables us to climb higher and higher. Truly, the gospel life is the good life."

I am climbing! I am holding tight to the rod of iron, hoping to not lose my grip, and slide backwards! What is the question of today? Something about what are we to hear from these two prophets who seem to contradict each other? How do we justify, Man should not run faster than he has strength... with It is after all we can do?

My name is Marta, the translation of this word is Martha. I am constantly aware of the Savior's charge to Martha to choose the "better part!" What is the better part? How fast should we run?

Question of the day.
