Neighborhood Barbeque!

24th of July means red white and blue flags, parades, corn on the cob and juicy hamburgers!

Several years ago our ward began a breakfast at the park followed by a parade around the block. It isn't very big, but my kids don't care! They loved decorating their little cars with flags and balloons, taking their shiny new cap guns and touring the neighborhood! In years past they have charged the little batteries for their cars, but they never make it all the way before the battery is done! This year S invented a new solution to the problem! I suggested they ride bikes instead of their little cars, but S solved the problem another way! He tied the jeep and the bug to the back of the 4-wheeler and pulled them! They loved it! S got to drive the 4 wheeler, and the girls loaded both cars completely full of kids for the tour around the block! I don't have pictures because C took the camera to camp with him - they will be back in a week.:)

C & L got up early on the 24th (Friday) to go ride the horses so they could be in the parade on Dash and Coda. C was riding Dash and just felt uneasy about it half way into the parade with the muscle cars behind him revving their engines. So he turned around and didn't finish the parade. L changed to the back of the parade so she had control over how close the muscle cars were to her. They both had a good time! C got to wear his new cowboy boots we picked up on our recent trip to Idaho. He looked like a real cowboy!

Jr. team had their cap guns loaded, the cars washed and shiny, and the bags of candy ready for them to throw to the spectators (a whole 10 of us :)) They loved piling all the kids in who didn't have a way to be in the parade. I think in the end we had five kids in B's jeep, three in S's and three or four on the 4 wheeler.

That afternoon/evening we were fortunate to get to head up to Winchester Hills to participate in the 24th Barbecue D&C C. were in charge of! D is the new volunteer fire chief there, and they have been hosting this party for about five years now. They plan on 400 people, but didn't have that many this year. We went to help husk the corn, make the 42 gallons of root beer, and prepare the park for the party. It was a great night!

B & I had to sneak away about 7:30 to have our pictures taken for the Silver Beaver award we have been nominated to receive. What an honor that they would consider us. Not something I seek, but an honor they would so recognize our service. We left the kids at the party, and reported to the corner of the temple block to have our pictures taken.

What a beautiful 24th of July! We are grateful for good friends, good neighbors, and great family!
