I love Elder Bednar's encouragement to notice the "tender mercies" of the Lord. Tonight I must say that the acts of God in my life today have been more than "tender mercies," rather, they have been modern day MIRACLES!
At our stake youth conference this past June, J.B. spoke of the mention in the Book of Mormon of "strange things" and how the world refused to recognize the hand of the Lord, rationalizing away His acts of love.
I took J to the Wound Clinic today, and came home so humbly grateful for His power and majesty. Yesterday they warned that we were not yet completely out of the dangerous zone, and that there was still possibilities that we could be looking at 3rd degree burns on parts of J's feet. They said it could still be several days before we could know. Well, today when we went in, we saw a different doc, and his opinion is that we are safe to believe that J will not have any problems healing, though it will be several weeks still, but he taught us about dressing his wounds, and told me to keep them clean, changing it as often as possible, even a couple of times a day if necessary to keep it clean. He said he didn't see anything that looked like it would require drastic surgery like skin grafts. I am sooo grateful! I know that this is a modern miracle! The power of the Priesthood is real, and while we must be very cautious of infection, Dr. V and Dr. E both believe J will heal completely and smoothly from this injury. Thank you Father!
The other miracle today was regarding finances. I was seriously at the edge financially. Not in a lose the house or close the office doors way, but seriously concerned that I didn't know how or where to turn. I wrote about the song that touched my heart yesterday, and I testify that I know that my Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ are aware of our needs, and can answer our prayers. My Mom wrote a beautiful post yesterday about the Law of Consecration. She and my Dad are a beautiful examples of living this law! I try hard to follow their examples in this manner. Trust in Him. Share what you have, and trust that He will see your need, and care for you because you have done as He directed. Tithing is a true principal, and trusting God is always the way to safety and security. I am aware as the Mom to seven fabulous young people of the need to teach them thrift, and industry. We so easily take for granted worldly attitudes of eating out, spending money, wasting valuable resources. We had long talks about being thrifty yesterday with the kids, and I was especially touched to hear S's prayer today when I received a call that B had found an entire settlement package we collected in August and never cut the checks on. This was not the only miracle, but I don't feel I should mention details here, I will just say there are more than ten (yes 10 similar to this in stature) miracles with regards to finances which happened just today! I am so grateful, so humbled at the majesty, love, compassion, care from my Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ. Thank you! They are working miracles daily on this earth! Turn to them! Listen to the promptings of the third patient, all knowing, kind, understanding, and ever faithful member of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit! He truly has directed my paths!
