Election Time - Be a Builder!

Tonight we hosted an Open House for three candidates running for local races... Mayor Dan McArthur, and two council members - Suzanne Allen and Gail Bunker. I am so grateful for the friends who came to visit with them! We had a VERY nice visit on the back porch, and had quite a good turn out - not too many, but we had some 25 people over. Last week at the other open house, they had the candidates visiting individually with the people there, tonight, we pushed a little and invited them to take stage (the deck) and we sat on the patio, and they introduced themselves, tooted their horns, and then they opened it to questions/comments. There were several prepared with things they wanted to say, and I was so grateful for the healthy discussion that pursued. Our fliers said 7-8:30 but they were still going strong until almost 9! It is now 10:45 and I just tucked my last young people into bed because we had some linger and visit longer. I am so grateful for good friends who care about our community enough to come visit with those running for office, a great place to live where such events can happen(honestly!!!), a beautiful home where I am not afraid to open my door and welcome anyone, a wonderful family who loves to host a party (including helping make homemade rootbeer, light the fire pit, mow the lawn, clean the kitchen, make the cookies, dish out the carmel.... ) my family IS the best! Thanks team! Good work!

We love our Mayor McArthur! Tonight he shared a poem, he recites many by memory including this one tonight....

Am I a Builder or a Wrecker?

I watched them tearing a building down,
A gang of men in a busy town.
With a heave and a ho and a might yell,
They swung a crane and a sidewall fell.

I asked the foreman, “Are these men as skilled
As the men you hire when you have to build?”
He gave me a laugh and said, “No, indeed!
Just common labor is all I need.
I can easily wreck in a day or two
What builders have taken a year to do.”

And I thought to myself as I went my way,
Which of these roles have I tried to play?
Am I a builder who works with care,
Measuring life with a ruler and square?

Am I shaping my deeds by a well-laid plan,
Patiently doing the best I can?
Or am I a wrecker who walks the town,
Content with the labor of tearing down?

Thank you Mayor for reminding us to be builders! I love Building! I am grateful to associate with SO many great BUILDERS!
