Thankful For...

I have been racing to prepare to leave town... we are going to Virginia to see J! Can't wait to get on the road! We will leave Thursday (still a few hours to get jobs done here!) after C & L get done with classes, and we will be driving for a couple of days straight! If we get on the road by 1:00 p.m. (target leave time!) and we don't stop AT ALL we could make it by J's 8:00 p.m. game in Kentucky on Friday. I don't have a lot of hope for that however! I would rather stop and get a few hours of sleep not moving someplace along the way there! M & D are coming with us, they have our grey truck, and they are driving that car out to J for him to keep for the next semester. J called tonight, he played a game tonight, and they won by a lot! Good job J!

In the mist of lists and lists of projects/preparations to leave town, I am so thankful! I am thankful for little heads that all got hair cuts last night! Another project that I somehow managed to pick up from my wonderful family! I save that $10/head and cut them all myself. Always have! J has never been to a barber! L and I used to go across the street when we lived in Santa Clara and have S.C. give us a trim/perm/color, etc. That has been many years! Sara is six and I haven't had any color since before she was born! So Monday night for FHE I gave everyone haircuts! I am always amazed at how fast little ones grow up with a simple trim of that darling blond hair! Little J is so darling! His most frequent words currently are "Me turn to pray!" He gets mad at anyone else who thinks they get to say prayers! "Me say prayers!" He is talking well! This morning he came into the room I was in, following B upset about something. I listened in, and learned that he had asked B if she would marry him, and she said "No." He was so upset! B is just old enough to know that boys are something strange, and that someday she must find one, but she really can't imagine that now! J wanted her to marry him! B was adamant that she would not. I interrupted and explained that we were sealed together FOREVER and that we would be family forever! J didn't need to worry about loosing B! She would be with him Forever! He then proceeded to follow her around for the next several hours - proclaiming "Forever!" "Forever B!" He is so darling! Who would not want him Forever? I am so grateful to be related to both of them! S on the other hand has been afraid of something about our house burning down. I haven't quite figured it out, but she has had bad dreams about it, and is sincerely scared about it. I hope to figure out how to comfort her! She is beautiful! It was hard to trim her curls last night. I barely cut off anything hoping to not disturb those natural ringlets! She is beautiful! They all are! I am so Thankful to be a Mom! Thankful to home school so we can take time together! Thankful for a beautiful home to live in. Thankful for nice cars that I trust will carry us all the way across the country! Thankful for telephones to connect! We got to say prayers with J tonight! I am grateful to have this time to adjust to him being gone and yet not gone! I am sure a mission will be a bit different, but for now, I am grateful to hear his voice, and we are all anxious to see him! Missed giving him a haircut last night!

BTW: When I was a girl, a neighbor S.B. wrote a musical titled 'Within the Four Walls of your Home' which our stake put on. There was a fun song in that play about Mom's haircuts! It went... Oh, Oh, Oh, Momma she was our barber. She learned to cut our hair. But one thing when she started, we said a silent prayer! A Prayer!... Zoom, Zoom, Chop, Chop, Pin Please." I sing it to my kids as we start hair cuts! It always brings a smile! They have never given me a rough time about it, in fact they all get anxious to get a haircut, ready for the change! C doesn't like it when I cut too short, he has a strong cowlick right on the top of his head that really likes to spring up! I tease him that it's just jumping like he always is! I didn't cut him too short last night, he shouldn't be frustrated with this cut! Last night L wanted to learn. It was a courageous thing for S and B to sit in the chair and see me hand the scissors to L! She is learning! They didn't like being the test runs! I am thankful for talents from family - love you Grandma Orla! I am so blessed!
