I note that in the past post I mentioned music, but failed to mention that I love the music here in my home! I remember looking at this home, knowing that a beautiful baby grand piano would be perfect for the front room, wishing, hoping that someday that could be a reality, but not really daring to draw it into my furniture layout/sketch! I am fortunate to have a beautiful upright piano that I learned to play the piano on, and I knew it had a home in the dinning area attached to the front room. It stands there beautifully, often playing! It wasn't long after we moved in, I got a call from my wonderful Mom one day. She said that she was headed to downtown SLC with Grandma Mary to attend a piano sale, and they wanted to know if I would go half. Half of what? She proceed to tell me that if I would go half, they would together come up with the other half of the price of a new baby grand for my front room. Wow! I am so blessed to have two pianos within steps of each other. We affectionately call them the 'dueling pianos!' They are frequently both playing! I am so fortunate to have six beautiful young people in my home who love music and make beautiful sounds! I know that I will miss this someday!
We recently changed our music teaching. We have taken lessons from Fabulous friend and neighbor A.S. for years. She is wonderful, and has taught my young people with patience and love for which I will forever be indebted to her. Thank you A! With many engagements on both her calendar and ours, our schedule for piano lessons has been struggling at best. We decided some changes were due. L is taking fabulous piano classes (2) at the college, and said that she didn't feel like she needed lessons this semester, realizing that could easily change in a few weeks. C was ready for a new challenge, and L managed to find a young man in her accompaniment class at the college she thought C could learn a lot from. Now C gets piano lessons in the practice room at the college on this student's lunch break - Perfect! A gentleman, inspiring him to reach new heights. At the school where he can focus on him, and not have to be transported all over town, during the day so he is free in the afternoons for other commitments. Perfect! (for now!)
Then we decided to have L teach S, and C teach S and B! It has been beautiful. Even as I write this post, I can hear C playing the guitar upstairs, and B on the piano. I love music, and my home is full of beautiful music! C has taught B that she can begin to play the hymns out of the simplified book. I love to make dinner, wake up, return home to the sound of "We Thank Thee Oh God for a Prophet" played by that beautiful eight year old! She will be baptized over Christmas by J when he comes home. She is so beautiful, and it is even more beautiful to find C sitting beside her tenderly teaching, encouraging, inspiring her to produce beautiful sounds. S loves having lessons, she has begged for a turn for a number of years, but schedules haven't allowed to have her add. S struggles, but he and L get along great, and L has a sweet way of encouraging him along. I do need to add some motivators to his practice schedule.
I love music! I consider music the very sounds of our family buzzing with activity. I do want to remember that those sounds include many beautiful melodic notes! Thank you young people for blessing my life! Thank you Mom and Grandma Mary for dueling pianos! We know we are so blessed!
