Elder J C H has officially been called to serve as a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Taiwan Taipei Mission to preach the gospel in Mandarin Chinese. He is to report to the Provo MTC on July 21, 2010.
Words cannot justly tell the power of the spirit as he opened the envelope. The team all gathered literally minutes before the game. The call had been picked up from his apartment in Virginia by his coach's wife, and delivered to Uptown Pennsylvania arriving at 8:30 p.m.. Start time for the Championship game was 9:00 p.m.. The team quickly filed into the VIP room set aside for special occasions. Four team members present are not members of the church. All three coaches were more than accommodating and happy to be a part of this special occasion. We sang the first verse of Called to Serve Him, and then J tore into the envelope. I literally collapsed onto the floor as he read: "Dear Elder Harr: You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Taiwan Taipei Mission....." J was soooo excited! This is his dream come true! He has been preparing for this call, this language, this opportunity for... his entire life! He is ready and so anxious! The team all cheered, congratulated him, and filed out quickly to the locker room to hold a quick team meeting and play their final game. J disappeared for the meeting, and then came back to the VIP room where I was trying to pick up (myself, the computer equipment we had tried to connect every in via Skype, cell phones, the map we prepared with guesses of everyone all over the earth!) J said he had to come back in to see if it was "for real!" Yep! It is for real! Me too. I can't believe it!
Many, many spiritual experiences that evening. They didn't win the championship, they lost the game by 7. They played great, and gave it their all! No regrets! J was stoked. The team was still happy that they could be invited to the finals was a feat for them, and to take second was a great success! They had a great season, and we are so grateful J had the opportunity to be a part of such success, camaraderie, positive environment, support...! It has been a fabulous experience for him!
Due to criticisms of writing here in public, I regret that I don't feel comfortable sharing details here. Grateful to share this great news.
Later that night back at the hotel, I asked J what his future dreams were so I could prepare myself for what the future will most likely hold. He chuckled, and I questioned why he had to have dreams that took him so far away to which he Quickly responded: "Because Dreams Come True!" I am grateful that he dares to dream, and know that our prayers are answered! I received powerful witness that this call is exactly right for J, and to be at "Peace!" Helaman 5 came as powerful testimony I should not worry about the language, and that I should have peace!
