I am in Pennsylvania with B and S watching J and his team win! It is so fun! We stopped by J's mod to pick up his mission call on Wednesday but it wasn't there yet, but it is now! Today is Saturday, and they have won all their games, placing them in the National Championship Game tonight at 9:00 p.m. The game is late because several of the teams in the conference are Seventh Day Adventists, and so they can't play on Saturday, but they can play as soon as the sun goes down... hence the late start time! The finals game will be exciting... but not as exciting as the opening we hope to have right before! Because the team is doing so well, bus loads of students from Southern Virginia are headed up today, and bringing J's call with them. We are taking guesses on where it will be to, and frankly, I am so ready to open it and quit worrying about it! J will be thrilled with serving the Lord where ever he is called! We have tried to find a map here in Pennsylvania, and have been shocked at the number of stores closed, businesses now out of business, big buildings just sitting empty. Wow!
So today is the day! We have been here for three days, and just as our trip in November, everywhere we go, people say that this is unusual weather! I sit in front of the open window this early morning, the sun is coming in, and the sky outside looks a beautiful blue again today! We were told by National Park employee yesterday at the Fort Necessity Battlefield that they only see the sun 60 days a year. Well, they have had 3 of those days this week! :) I am so grateful for the sunshine, witness of God in my life! As I have cheered for this team representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints in this sea of teams, I am grateful for their goodness, their examples of sportsmanship, and clean language. They stand as great examples! Yesterday I kept humming to the tune of Onward Christian Soldiers... (BTW SVU's mascot is a Knight)
Knights in Shining Armor, standing as a team
Missionaries of Christ the Lord, testify of Him.
Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
forward into battle see his banners go!
Knights in Shining Armor, standing as a team
Missionaries of Christ the Lord, testify of Him.
(The rest of these verses are the real verses of the song, they fit appropriately to our team! Awesome!)
At the sign of triumph Satan's host doth flee;
on then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
(Refrain)
Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
We are not divided, all one body we,
one in hope and doctrine, one in charity.
(Refrain)
Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,
but the church of Jesus constant will remain.
Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail;
we have Christ's own promise, and that cannot fail.
(Refrain)
Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,
blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.
Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ the King,
this through countless ages men and angels sing.
(Refrain)
Anticipating great things of today! Important pieces of the future of our lives! Grateful the Lord plays such a vital role! Making Memories, grateful for K, C and Mom and Dad making it possible for me to be here. Thank you!
