We know that we live in a paradise! We love the bright sunshine 365 days a year and the beautiful bright blue sky every morning! We love the red rocks, the hills and rivers that surround us, even our Pine Mountain piercing up into the sky topped right now with snow, reminding us that elsewhere, even not far way, the world is in the mist of winter! We are thankful to live in this vacation destination and to call it HOME! What a blessing! J texted C yesterday saying that he hasn't seen the sun for four(4) days and it's getting him down. We are so blessed! I am sorry J. Keep your chin up!
With the advantages of living in a vacation destination, we recognize it is not a possibility for many families in the mist of their careers, trying to support their families. We live in a very mixed age neighborhood. While in Santa Clara, we had 27 kids living on our corner, our yard was always full to over flowing of kids on the trampoline, riding bikes, playing basketball in the driveway, etc.. We miss that. In this neighborhood we don't have many kids. B often says that we can make two choices, we can either be: part of the problem, or part of the solution! So the kids and I decided we were going to be part of the solution! There are several new families in the neighborhood and we invited them to FHE last night, calling it a welcoming party for these new families, but the kids thought it was sooo fun! It's been along time since we had that many kids in the yard!

It felt good! We made green peach cobbler in the dutch ovens - something B misses! He hasn't gotten the dutch ovens out for several months since he is no longer in scouts. The kids were a bit skeptical about the green cake atop the peaches, but it was fun! We signed cards and took pies to the new families who couldn't make it, and had everyone write a quick note to the missionaries - wow we have twelve on our list of current friends in the field! It was a fun evening, something we shouldn't wait for too long to do again! Last minute notice, so some we invited didn't have time to make arrangements to get here, but not too stressful! Due to the time change, it was light until 8 so we mostly had the party on the back patio. Weather was beautiful, and when the sun went down it got a bit cool, which was great, it was 8 and we were ready to call it a night. Just a quick hour of friends together! Thanks friends!
