Are You Ready? Emergency Preparedness??

Today, while driving down the street little S asked when Jesus was going to come with the angels. Oh, I only wish I knew! Would I be ready? A great discussion began which led me to reflect on our family preparedness, my personal preparedness in physical matters as well as spiritually!

I am amazed at the power of the Spirit! I am so grateful for His intervention in my life! I have been preparing for a YW activity coming, and had to search to find this article about the earthquake in Chile again so I can share it with our YW next Tuesday. Not by coincidence, just a few weeks ago, in our New Beginnings, Brother Hedrick of the Stake High Council gave us the same advice as Elder Scott gave this Mission President and his wife. I am so grateful for fabulous leaders who are in tune, and willing to guide, direct, support, and follow the Spirit in helping us, fellow Saints along the trail! I am grateful for the many early morning promptings I have experienced personally which remind me that my Father knows precisely where I am and what my needs are!

Emergency Preparedness. It brings images of immediate disaster and urgency. I don't want to live my life that way, but I certainly want to be prepared! This month in YW we are to focus on Knowledge. One of the optional goals reads:

At Young Women camp you learn skills in first aid, safety, sanitation, and survival. Review these teachings in your Young Women Camp Manual and note in your journal how you could apply them in your home to keep your family safe. Develop a list of basic supplies your family will need in case of an emergency. Teach a family home evening lesson or share with a Young Women leader what you have learned and what additional skills you would like to learn to be prepared for emergencies.

I think it will be fun to work on this next Tuesday. We are going to trick the girls into believing they are coming to make Strawberry Pies, and then have a fireman show up in his turnouts (fire gear) to announce we are having an emergency, and they have 10 minutes to report to the school on the other side of the bridge, with an unknown time of when we will be allowed to return, and to bring their family 72 hour emergency kits! It will be fun! Are You Prepared?
