Letter to Elder Harr

Dear Elder Harr: September 24, 2010
A few more days of the possibility of sending cookies, and having you get them the very next day! This possibility won’t be much longer – then you will be off to new adventures! We struggle with what to send you while you’re at the MTC, but not sure we have figured this out yet. I talked to several moms this week at the stake picnic and they said that they didn’t send packages at all to their Elders while they were in the MTC. Ya, but their sons weren’t there for three months either!  I am so grateful to have our own experiences! I AM sending packages, and lots of them if that is what I feel like doing! I am also being totally obedient!  Trying to follow your fabulous example!
This morning cute Sam went to mow the lawns at the horses. Last time he went, the trailer lost it’s back wheel, and became a major problem – finally Liesl went and rescued him, loaded the trailer and mower in the back of her truck to get the job done. Sam has been hoping that she will be here to help him so he doesn’t have problems again, but because of schedules, he has to get his lawns mowed, and can’t wait for her, so he decided to brave the trailer problems anyway. So on his way down, with the trailer loaded in tow, he passed a cop – scary for him as it is during school time, and he is driving a four wheeler on the road – both things he has been taught are against the law. He said he was scared and worried that now here he is doing what he is supposed to be doing, already scared, now he has to worry about getting in trouble with a cop. We had a talk about obedience, and confidence. I suppose we are all trying to learn the same lessons! We talked about how when you are doing right, you have to have the confidence that you are doing what is right, and not to act like you are breaking the law or they will assume that you are, and will inspect, question, push to try to figure out why or how you are, even when you aren’t. Interesting.
In preparation for the Centennial Celebration this past weekend I worked with a gentleman named Jon whom I had never met before. I understand he recently moved here from New York, where he has worked with many to organize similar significant events, he commented to your dad that I appeared to be “Unflappable.” Your Dad repeated the comment when he got home, and I questioned what “Unflappable” meant. We discussed it and we think of someone in the Titanic story who was unflappable that through thick and thin we know what we want, and we perservere with a certain confidence and desire for success. That is true of our family I believe! I hope that you are “Unflappable” in this new adventure! Be confident in the Lord. He will help you! He will make you equal to the task! Trust in Him! He promises “I the Lord am bound when ye do what I say!” We can trust in that! We can put our trust in His arm, and know that He has all power! He can adjust the weather! He can multiply the loaves and the fishes! He can inspire you with the words to say! He can make the pathway visible when we can’t see a way through! Trust in Him! I am trusting in Him as I promise Him that you, my son will serve with Joy like Samuel of old! You are so fabulous! Go with confidence!
Our discussion in the kitchen about confidence changed and we talked about how a dog can tell when you are scared. So can a horse tell when you don’t have the confidence while on his back. Others can tell when we don’t have the confidence to move ahead. Elder Harr… Stand ‘Unflappable,’ confident that with God Nothing is Impossible! You must reach and take His hand! To this I testify He will make us equal to the task!
Perfect Obedience… He is bound. I am so grateful for you Elder Harr! Please keep us posted on the Priesthood Choir and on the details of your departure date. As that time gets closer, we would hate to have a package sent to the MTC when you aren’t there! I have posted both the MTC and Mission Home address on your blog, with a date uncertain of when the switch will take place. It is getting close!  yea! These hardest of days are drawing to a close quickly now! Praying all is in line with your visa! I haven’t heard that it isn’t so I assume no news is good news!
Got to get this package to the post office, and the bike box mailed at the UPS store! I LOVE YOU YOUNG MAN!!! MAN OF GOD! I am enclosing a message by Russell M. Nelson on Divine Love and Obedience. Love it! 
