Asking, Learning, Blogging... with Sister Beck on The Mormon Channel

My notes from this talk by Sister Beck, found online at this link: http://www.mormonchannel.org/relief-society/questions-and-answers/18

What is the difference between revelation, and it's implications or application? You know you have to solve it, but you don't know the in between steps. Sometimes you have the big answer, and that means you have a challenge to ask more questions.

Daughters in my kingdom - a "Recipe book." Teaches how other people have reacted with faith, fulfilling these purposes we have. Recipes of examples - patterns for our lives. Learning how other people have solved things, and how we can solve our problems. Recipes of successful, spiritual women we can pattern our lives after.

Our life experiences shape where we are. We are all still on lesson #1. We need to learn lesson #1 so we can move to lesson #2. Have the courage to "own your questions" have the faith that you can receive the answer(s).

One of the ground rules - your question should be something for which your answer will build someone else. The answer to this will help more than just yourself. Ask questions that will send me on a search through the scriptures, or to ask questions of someone who might know. #1 influence is mother and #2 is grandmother, is it a real grandmother or a grandmother you know. We need to spend more time with the older generation with the younger generation, they can lead us! Tap into that.

Daughters IN MY (the Lord's) Kingdom. Mormon Mommy Blogger - 1st a Mormon! Keep my faith, keep centered on my role as a Mother! Then other pursuits, in that order! Women sharing their faith in way that others may or may not accept that has always happened!

Abish - Alma 19. Personal private conversion. Lamoni's servants fell to the ground, supposing this to the ground, and that if the people could see this occasion, she ran forth from house to house making it known to the people. The opportunity came, and she found a way to share. She was a missionary, and she used this opportunity to collect people, she was a catalyst of converting the mothers of the Armies of Helaman - building the Lord's Kingdom in a large way! Increasing faith, and helping those she could! Open your mouth, share. I will go before your face, and be on your right hand and on your left. Ask questions, and seek answers.

Impromptu at Women's Conference Sister Beck stopped and said "Fight, Fight, Fight!"

President Packer said in last conference that we are "raising our children in Enemy Territory!" We are in a modern world, and we were told in the last conference that we are living in a "modern war zone." We can be passive and be overrun, or we can be proactive. Do we see the connection to the War Chapters in Alma? We are battling the same "deceitful and determined enemy!" Alma 48 Moroni didn't want to be in a battle. He was fighting a really bad guy - his strategy vs 7 - he is gaining power by fraud and deceit. Prepare minds to be faithful - Jacob 3:1 - Speak unto you that are pure in heart, and pray unto him with exceeding faith. He will send down justice upon those who seek your destruction. Moroni knew those words, and his first strategy was to prepare minds to be faithful! Then he strengthened the armies by providing forts of security - our homes. Forts around the dinner table where questions can be asked, where building and strengthening can happen. Is our defense set? Did we raise the draw bridge? Fight, Fight, Fight! Start with layers and then work and work. In the weakest fortifications place the greatest number of men. Work one layer at a time.

Mother's provisioning, father's taking provisions. "All Hands on Deck" - strengthening the family! A deceitful thing trying to get power by fraud! Chapter 50, there never was a happier time than in the days of Nephi, they were happy, they were protected, they strengthened each other, they were happy!

"All Hands on Deck!" Plug one hole at a time. Preparing minds to be faithful. Be the watchman on the tower so that we can be prepared and ready when there is a need!

Every Stake is an army of Captain Moroni, and every Stake President is the General. We are only as strong as our weakest point. Stakes as strong as their weakest ward, wards are only as strong as our weakest family. Our family is only as strong as our weakest member. Provide a "safe place" to provide a place to ask and find answers to the faithful questions. If our minds are firm, He will plead our cause.

Purposes of Relief Society: "Increase Faith, strengthen families and homes, seek out and help those that are in need." That is a lifetime preparation.

How are you approaching your questions - with doubt or faith? Let's see what the Lord has said. Is there anything like that in the scriptures? Have we looked for it?

Relief Society was a restoration of an ancient pattern. Is there evidence that there was a Relief Society organization - even a bread crumb of look to Mary and Martha, look to D&C 25, in 1830. Show me the way? Make the connections, the spiritual confirmations will come. Ask honest, faith promoting questions. How are we tied to the Lord. Study, think, ponder. Ponder. Deeper questions that build our faith deserve some time and attention. Ponder.

Relationship between patience and faith. We get so much immediately, are we patient? Elder Jacob DeAuger said "Patience, patience, patience is being able to HIDE your impatience!" Don't show how impatient you are on the inside. Hide your impatience, and then your faith with grow.

The Journey is as great and as delicious as the outcome!
