The theme this week in primary is something about coming to earth to get a body and being tested. I think it would be fun to work through a physical exam. Are we alive? How do we know?
I have outlined my ideas on the spreadsheet available here. I plan on calling a doc in my neighborhood to borrow their stethoscope and blood pressure cuff. I have a lab coat, and will stop by the hospital and ask for a pair of blue footlet coverings.
I think it could be fun! I still want to find a few scriptures to add to the discussion on a few of the items - we won't have time for many of them, but a few especially for senior. (Love dropbox it allows editing to continue!)
I also know that in the Webelos scout book there is a physical fitness test (see the list here but I'll make it into a little spreadsheet) that requires the kids to do certain physical tests to begin with, and then work on them for a six weeks and see if they have improved. Here is a sheet I am copying on colored cardstock for each primary friend. It has the Webelos requirements for the Athlete Activity Badge as well and is passes off a Faith In God in both the boy and girl books under Developing Talents. They should show improvement over the 30 days - 6 week time frame.
There is a great talk by Elder M. Russell Nelson on the amazing human body titled "Thanks Be to God."
This week one early morning I was working and listening to the Mormon channel and heard Jeffery R. Holland's Personal Purity message from October 1998. He said:
The use of His power to create a human body, that wonder of all wonders, a genetically and spiritually unique being never before seen in the history of the world and never to be duplicated again in all the ages of eternity. A child, your child—with eyes and ears and fingers and toes and a future of unspeakable grandeur.
Probably only a parent who has held that newborn infant in his or her arms understands the wonder of which I speak. Suffice it to say that of all the titles God has chosen for Himself, Father is the one He favors most, and creation is His watchword—especially human creation, creation in His image.Certainly need to tie in the Proclamation on the Family!
Just wanted to share in case someone is still searching for an idea!
Happy President's Day long weekend!
