Tonight I had the privilege of helping with an Eagle Court of Honor for a young man who lives not far from us. He is a Great Kid! He called earlier in the week and asked if I would be willing to, and I was honored! It is not the first time this has happened, and I have decided I need to be more prepared! I showed up to the court tonight to see that my name was one of the few listed on the program. He didn't have anyone else speaking. I was thrilled to talk about him and his great project and about Eagle's and express gratitude for their willingness to serve, and the gentlemen they are expected to be for the rest of their lives. I have been mentored well by other members of the Advancement board. I just wish I had been more prepared.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend a few hours and two different women's conferences. I started at "Bee Extroidinary" sponsored by our LDS Stake Relief Society. L had come home from SLC because her great choir leader M.Webb was speaking at a Mother Daughter conference at the college titled "Be You tiful." A good friend of mine B.Barney was speaking 1st hour or so I thought at the stake one, and I felt strongly that I should go there to support her. I was glad I did. She shared scriptures and experiences related to the Holy Ghost and all the labels and roles he plays. I also heard Susan E. Black speak at the LDS conference before I left there to join L at Dixie State University's event.
The differences in the two events were night and day! The LDS one was about the Savior and Comforter. They quoted scriptures and prophets and apostles as their sources. The other quoted cute Dr. Suess lines, but they just weren't all the way there! I wanted to add to, to help fill in the blanks at the DSU one.
It was a beautiful day, and I was grateful to spend it with L! We enjoyed lunch and a fashion show followed by another speaker - Elizabeth Smart. She was abducted several years ago, and she told her story. While I agree that she did manage to draw important lessons from the experience, I think I will have bad dreams and worry about my kids for several weeks because of what she said. After lunch we picked up B and little S and went homeshowing for the late afternoon, visiting for the first but final times for this year as the show closed today and we don't participate in activities such as that on Sunday.
It was fun to get away and talk about the mood, setting, feelings in the homes as we visited. The YM/YW theme for this year is Stand in Holy Places. I am so grateful that my home is Holy! It's important to me that it be that way! I pray it always can be!
So, back to the Court of Honor, I came home from the conferences, wondering how often these people tell the same story over and over again. The thought crossed my mind, if I was asked to share, would I have anything to share? ... I should have listened! I was the only one to stand up and say anything at the court tonight. I pray that what I said didn't offend or hurt anyone! I am honored to talk about this great kid, but it isn't at the downfall of others! The trail of Eagle teaches that we can set goals, and reach beyond things that we dreamed possible because we learn to set goals, work towards those goals, and then we do it! I hope that is the message I shared tonight!
Sharing time went good. I was afraid that I didn't have enough for Jr primary, and the presidency gave me nearly the entire 20 minutes (yea!). But Sr. was another story! I was way over prepared for Sr. and then I was only given about 8 minutes! Ugh! Life! I'm not in charge. I hope I make the most of every opportunity to testify of my Savior! I love Him!
