We have an outstanding Stake President! I am so grateful to rub shoulders and learn from amazing people around me!
When the mission age change was announced President A called a special meeting to talk to parents about our duty as Parents to prepare our children to serve the Lord. He called on young people from the large audience in the Stake Chapel and asked what their plans were, and why they were going to do that. He had hand picked those whom he called on.
Why are you going on a mission? ... He taught beautifully that day that we should do our Best, we should commit our lives to the Lord... why? Because We Love the Lord!
I love that this so simply motivates us. Yes, why should I make a list and care about all the duties of today? Because I Love Him. Why should I do my best to homeschool my kids, Because I love Him and He has trusted these Beautiful little ones into my care and I Love Him. Why should I pray and study about what to study and what to share for FHE tonight? Because I Love the Lord. I want to do all I can to show Him that I love and appreciate him!
The song for the month in Primary is My Heavenly Father Loves Me. I found this cool website that has sounds of nature that I burned to CD and played in the primary room. "Listen" I told the kids, and "tell me what you hear." I made three different mixes, one with sounds of the beach and bird sounds, one with forest sounds of the birds in the trees, and one with barn yard sounds. If you try this, note that you can adjust how often the different sounds mix in. Play with it so they change.
The author of My Heavenly Father Loves Me is Clara W. McMaster. She writes:
“I’m grateful that as a child we had an orchestra and a chorus in our family. It was easy because we had no radios, TV or movies. I was born on a farm, and I knew the sounds in the barnyard. When I was called to the Primary General Board, I was told that the children needed a song to teach them that their Heavenly Father loves them. I didn’t really know how to do that. The Lord answered my prayers through the song of a bird. All I would have to do to write this song was to bear my testimony. This was my way of saying to the children that my Heavenly Father loves me. It wasn’t my song. It was something brought into my heart many years ago. I’m grateful that the children still want to sing my song. (BYU Music Workshop, 1984)
It was a great way to settle the kids down and get them to listen closely. I took objects to remind them of the next part of the song. They especially liked the rain (a squirt bottle) that we showered over them at the right time. I love this song, and love that I get to enjoy nature in person with my family so often!

This past weekend, we were in SLC and took time Saturday to enjoy a beautiful hike along the river up Little Cottonwood canyon. On our early morning hike a few trips back, we found a rope swing over the river, and came back raving about how scary and fun it was! The kids have all been anxious to do it themselves. We went two of the three days we were up there! I'll have to get B's phone and upload some of the pictures, it was beautiful! I feel His love for me everyday, and I am grateful to have the privilege of being a Mom to help little ones learn to see His love for them! Indeed He created a beautiful world for us so we could have Joy! Thank you Father! Laus Deo!
Another song we are going to learn as a family is "Life is O'erflowing with Beautiful Things." Here is a video on LDS.org of this song. Here is the pdf music from the Friend. Here is a well done flipchart - thanks to others who share their resources on the web! I am so grateful to link in to other amazing people and learn from them! Thank you!
Why? Why do we do it all and keep trying? Because I Love the Lord!

I created this flipchart with pictures of our own primary friends! They thought it was sooo fun to see their own pictures! Lots of Smiles!
