These days seem to fly by and if I don't make a note of the miracles of each day I forget too quickly!
Then we headed to the car. In the park across the street there was a wedding marty with a limo waiting nearby. The driver had been watching my family play on the grass for a few minutes, and I felt impressed to talk to him. We visited casually for a few minutes and he asked about where we were from. I joked that I felt like I drove a car as long as his! , etc. Then I called the kids to go, and we loaded up.
I ended with Thursday in my last post. Friday morning we woke to rainy skies and cold temperatures again. We decided that we wanted to walk down Parley's Street even in the rain! So we did! We bundled the babies, and our Father in Heaven showed a tender mercy and stopped the rain long enough for us to walk down the street and read the placks containing snips from pioneer journals as we progressed towards the mighty Mississippi! Since 2002 when the temple in Nauvoo was dedicated and President Hinckley challeneged all listening to take the time to walk down Parley's Street, I have wanted to join that journey! A walk down Parley Street is a step back into time especially now that the temple stands towering beautifully on the hill! As I admired my beautiful young people, scrambling to have a turn to read the placks, and I reflected on the Mighty Mississippi calling my L is embarking on soon, my thoughts were of Elder Bednar's talk
The Prophet Joseph taught that “. . . faith is the assurance which men of the existence of things which they have not seen, and that it is also the principle of action in all intelligent beings” (Lecture 1, pg. 31 in The Lectures On Faith In Historical Perspective, Brigham Young University: Religious Studies Center, 1990). Thus, faith is always the beginning or origin of action." Elder Bednar 2004
She is about to embark on a new journey similar to the journey of the saints! So many times we learn of the Elders being called to go out and serve! This era in history will show that our Sisters prepared diligently and went forth to serve where ever they are called to testify of Him!
I am so grateful for her!
After our walk, we were indeed grateful to climb into a warm car, and turned up the heater! I had a few issues I needed to handle - payroll for our fabulous crew at the office!!! We ventured back to the hotel parking lot where we knew we had an internet connection and conducted our business. Then we were immediately headed towards Springfield, Illinois to learn about President Abraham Lincoln.
That night we crawled into a hotel room finally in Springfield Ill. Saturday morning we changed the channel a bit to the landscape of American History, and we visited first the National Park visitor center, and then hoping to visit an Amish Interpretive Center, we called to confirm they were open, only to learn they were not. So as such, we had that afternoon to learn more about Abe Lincoln. So we are glad we took the time to visit the Abe Lincoln Presidential Library. It is not a US National Parks site. It was superb!
After spending a few hours there enjoying the exhibits and a special two man dialog presentation about the assassination of the President at Ford's theater which was a miracle that especially my littlest ones sat through quietly (took a miracle!) because we were sandwiched in the middle of a very long row that I wouldn't have been ablve to climb out if I had to!!!
