Stretching, Changing, Learning, Growing

I am so grateful for modern day Prophets and Apostles to lead and guide us! I have been studying the May Ensign with the talks from conference, and can't help but love reading them.  This dramatic week in the future of BSA, I have especially been pulled to the talk about the snake in the Garden of Eden by President Packer. Symbolically how many levels should I understand his metaphor?

Here is what President Packer said:

I have given far too many hours of concern to this BSA change. I have taken a stand, and I am not backing down!  I believe that Traditional Family needs defending!  I have been attacked, criticized, questioned, and cornered regarding this vote.  I removed my letter from this blog but I have not rescinded it!  I have given hours and hours to the BSA and I welcome all who have given me grief about my stand to take my place on the BSA committees and donate YOUR time to that organization!  As for me and my house, we are studying the new youth curriculum Come Follow Me, looking forward to changes!

I was impressed while watching these videos yesterday how many of them talk about "changes."  When I first watched them back around the first of the year, that meant to me the changes of a new way of teaching, but yesterday that word took on new challenges. Changes within the context of my family. We have long quizzed and discussed the lessons being taught in their classes on Sunday.  In fact we have a tradition, that if one of the kids can't tell us when their lesson was about, they have to call their teacher, apologize for not listening and beg them to remind them what their lesson was about!  There are a few of the kids that have had to take that route because we weren't satisfied that they were reporting enough about their lesson!  It only takes them once to not want to have to do that again, I think the others have learned from the experience of watching their siblings.  We love our Sunday dinner discussions!  I should note as well that when Grandparents visit, we ask them to report too, and my fabulous Dad takes notes of his class!  He sets a great example for us of listening and seeking to apply the lesson to his life.  We tease him that it's because sometimes his class is so unexciting, he has to take notes or he would fall asleep and have to call the teacher!  Love you Dad!

Today, I feel that these "changes" are coming in the amount of time I should be giving to my family.  We are excited to hold monthly Family Camps/Activities on each of the Come Follow Me themes outlined by our Prophet! Yesterday we made assignments for the months for the rest of the year.  For many, many years, we have used the monthly themes from the Values Parenting suggestions (linked). Which have been great, but now we're headed to another level higher!  Up Up and away!  Learning to Fly! (see this awesome post about that!)

For this month, on Prophets and Revelation my kids are all singing this cute youtube about our Prophets and Apostles (warning it will stick in your head!) I challenged them to learn it, promising we would go boating as soon as B,S,J could all sing it!  The older ones were challenged to an identify the member of the 12 by their picture.  My darling girls are singing and listening to this song on nearly every computer we are all singing! ;)  Thanks girls!  Looks like FHE tonight might be at the lake! :)

I wanted to link this website with cute ideas on the monthly Come Follow Me themes.  I am sure there are others, but this link was the first that pushed me to learn more about this program which is the direction I need to take my family.  Tender Mercy, thanks YW leaders!
