The theme for Primary this week is... "Family prayer, family scripture study, and family home evening can strengthen my family."
I am planning on taking my kids building blocks. I was thinking along the lines of the game Jenga, but instead of knocking down the tower, we will build a tower (family). I'll tie in that each block could represent one time of scripture study, family home evening, family prayer, etc., building a tower of our family taller and stronger on a firm foundation. I think I will divide the kids in half, and have two family towers building simultaneously - just a little friendly competition. :) I am planning on a maximum of 5 blocks/song and then IF everyone is singing. The best singers will get to add a block.
To complicate this just a little more for Sr. I think I will take a sharpie marker and put a few colored dots on a few of the blocks. I am going to bring the blocks in two cloth grocery bags, and I'll hold the bag around their hand as they reach in (recruiting a teacher or presidency member to help with one or both of the bags). They have to pick the first one they touch, to add to the tower. If that block has a colored dot, I will associate the songs to a color so we sing different songs based on what block(s) they drew out . I think the singing should be the main part, so I will have them building and adding to the tower as we sing on the condition that they keep singing.
The songs I am planning on singing are Families Can Be Together Forever (188), The Family (194), Love is Spoken Here (190), The Family is of God (Friend), Love at Home (H294). Here is a new flipchart for Love is Spoken Here. :) Happy Singing tomorrow!
