Wow! I just came from an amazing presentation by Garcia Jones. She is a direct descendant of Joseph Smith. She has an amazing life story! I am so grateful that I made the effort to go learn from her! Thank you to those who made that possible!! Here is a link to her life story told in her own words.
In addition to this story she shared many insights into the family and culture she grew up in. Because of persecution in Nauvoo after the Saints left, it was life preserving to not speak of Joseph Smith or what he had done. She writes about this in the link above. She didn't write about her struggle to find her mission and direction for her to pursue now that she had found the truth. Is seeking this answer she went to the Lord, and was told that "A Mother's Job is to Teach." We know that but when she shared that last night, the spirit testified to me that what she had just shared was true. I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to teach. She went on to share that Emma was a beautiful Mother and endured more than we can imagine! We love and appreciate her. However, because she chose to not follow the Saints, all of her posterity now numbering more than 3,000 have been and are in darkness. They don't have the truth. They don't even know where to look for it! Their Grandfather restored the truth but they have never heard his name and they don't know of the work their family did to bring the Gospel to the earth. While on the other hand, the family of Hyrum did come West with the Saints. They followed the prophet, and in fact Joseph Fielding and Joseph F Smith were both Hyrum's descendents. They now number more than 30,000 and they are active in the Church. They have had thousands of their descendants serve honorable missions, they enjoy the blessings of the temple! The power of one Mom!!
When I get discourage and wonder if the daily dishes in the sink and the never ending pile of laundry matter, I want to remember Emma and realize that the power of one Mom is great! Which direction am I supporting my family towards?
I am so grateful to Sister Jones for sharing her Powerful testimony and her husband Ivor! They were fabulous! It had been a really busy day and I wasn't sure I even had the energy to go! My day started at 4:15 when I got up to go to my weekly temple session at 5:30. I felt like I ran a marathon.... temple, dentist, homeschooling, bills, tennis, gymnastics, feed the missionaries, basketball, support Brad and Relief Society - really! I was bushed but I am soooo grateful that I kept pushing and made it (even late) to the beautiful presentation! I was well fed! Thank you to all who organized it! It was combined with the 4th ward. I think they put it together and invited us to join. Thank you leaders!
I love being a Mom!
