What does Love mean? I have been on this quest... what is Love? I have studied, read, prayed, searched.... What is Love? What does it mean? Can you buy it? Can you touch it? Can it be lost?
Love.
A favorite Primary song teaches us that "Reverence is more than just quietly sitting, it's thinking of Father above. A feeling I get when I think of his blessings, I'm reverent for Reverence is Love."
Today I found a definition I really like!
In his book, The Road Less Traveled, M. Scott Peck sheds light on what love is, what love isn’t, and how we can use real love to powerfully alter our lives and relationships. He says,
“Love is not a feeling. Love is an action, an activity. . . . Genuine love implies commitment and the exercise of wisdom. . . . Love is the will to extend oneself for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.” from Deliberate Motherhood by Power of Moms.
Action. Wisdom. Commitment. Willingness to do for another for the purpose of nurturing spiritual growth.
Yes, that is indeed what my missionaries are doing! Loving our Savior - being willing to go where ever His servants call them to go to share His Love, His Wisdom and Concern for the Spiritual Growth of Heavenly Father's children someplace in this world! Why would one go... because we Love the Savior! I am sooo grateful for my missionaries! I Love you L & C and J (RM)! How do we serve? How do we unite a family, an extended family, a neighborhood, a community to Love each other?
Love is not just "a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone" as Wikipedia suggests. That doesn't work. "What does Love mean?" was the question I asked K that night when she and C really yelled at me. I don't think we know what Love means. I want to know, to define it. To know and mean that I am committed, dedicated, willing to Act for those I Love! I am ready to Extend myself for those I love because I Care Deeply about them... yes in physical but also Spiritual ways! That's my spiritual thought for the night.
This weekend was preparing to be wild! Then Heavenly Father sent rain and some of the events were cancelled so we didn't have to divide quit so many directions!
It was the Red Rock Rampage but we didn't preregister J. He has begged to do it, but I am so glad that we didn't! It started raining Friday morning. S was supposed to be on a campout - that got cancelled! Because we weren't preregistered for the bike race - we cancelled that off our list. And we were supposed to have our Mader in a car show - but because of rain that got cancelled too. Deal. We ended up just having... Dad to Woodbadge training 7-1, S to the college with treats and waters for a Flute Symposium 9:30- 4, B singing in a choir with practice at 10 and funeral at 11 for Sister J Fife. Help with Salad for the funeral meal at 12. Mader with K Rolfsness to a National Basketball game at 10-1 (S and J went and threw frisbees on national television with him) Wew! We made it! :) Just a calm morning in our home :) hahaha. That is a lot! This morning was Stake Priesthood Mtg @ 7 @ the tabernacle and then Dad had a ward conference at the same time as our ward -so we flew solo again! I am so grateful for family and for commitment to help each other and care about the physical, emotional, and spiritual welfare of each in our family!
Grandpa and Grandma have not gotten their call yet. They wanted to be reporting next week. They aren't being very patient about it. They want it... this way and this having to wait for the General Authorities is really getting on them! They are not very happy! They have called the Church Office Building twice this week (or more!) and know that their call has not yet been done by a General Authority. They are still not assigned. They know that there are still 8 spots left to be filled at Martin's Cove for this year. They know that other couples called to that mission are to report to the MTC on April 7th. They are working toward that plan. Yet, Grandpa seems to know that he should wait. He called yesterday (our relationship is still rocky at best) but he called and asked if we would please pray for his call to get moving so he can make a plan because this waiting around is too hard!
In the meantime, we know that H and D are moving into Fox Hunt. It hurts. We are walking away from more than $100,000. we have invested in that house. It hurts.
Oh yea, this week J got to go to his first Blue & Gold banquet! He didn't wear a Cub Scout shirt, but he can't wait! Not sure what will happen with that and the BSA vote, but we still have a few months to decide. (There was a gay couple at the blue and gold - it was 3 wards combined, but on the other side of the gym there was a flaming gay couple there. Yes for real!)
We took all the girls in the neighborhood downtown for an Art Tour on Thursday afternoon. We started doing a Girl's Club on Thursday's at 3:30 and they had fun on their scooters downtown. Fun fun!!! xoxoxoxo
