Today is Wednesday, October 5th. We have been going to the temple on Wednesday mornings since before Jed went on his mission. He has now been home from his mission for 4 years, so I think we have been going once a week for something like 7 years. What a beautiful blessing that has been! I don't pretend to say it has been without struggles. Often we will notice just before or following going to the temple an increase in the tension in our home. Once we identify it, and ask for help in getting rid of such tension, the Spirit is quick to return.
I have learned that I have to be in the car by 5:05 a.m. to make it on the 5:30 session. I iron the shirts for the gentlemen in my home the night before so I don't have to wake up even earlier. I usually get up about 4:15 to get ready so I make it in time. I love my Temple family. I am so grateful for the spirit filled brothers and sisters who are there even earlier than we are to prepare the temple so we can come at that early hour! Brother Hafen - I tell him nearly every week that I hope he is at the gates in heaven checking recommends! I know he will be worthy and willing to work the shift there! I love his warm smile and welcome to the temple even at 5:05 in the morning! Sister Behrman has been welcoming me to the dressing room for all 7 of those years I believe! I wouldn't know who to look for if it weren't for her! She is an angel in white! If I am late, she will have saved a special stall closer to the front so I can dress quickly and still get there. Seriously, I remember her being the one there after I had both Sophia and Stephen and I would sometimes barely squeeze in because I had to nurse them before I dared leave them for the 2 1/2 hours of a session! With both of those little angels, I might have missed 4 weeks for each but after a month, I was back in the temple with my early temple family! Sister Judd radiates such light! She really does! I noticed her light the first week she was there working and felt prompted to share that with her. She shared recently with one of my kids when we found her in the community, that that day was her first day and she was so nervous and scared, and then they assigned her to be 1st Attendant and she was terrified. My side of the story continues, when I carried Stephen into the hospital this July with his broken leg, it was Sister Judd there at the hospital that helped me hold him and sign the papers to get checked in - sent just at the moment I needed angels! I can't forget Sister Liesl McBride who plays the organ in the chapel for us every Wednesday morning! She is such an angel! Then one day a few years ago, I was asked to lead the singing for a Stake Relief Society meeting, and guess who was at the organ? Yes, I got to meet and visit with Sister Liesl McBride. That was while our Liesl Harr was away at school at BYU-I and I was missing her! Often the song that Sister McBride is playing becomes my inspiration for the week. Last week the song was...Oh, I can't remember and that makes me sad because I have shared it in testifying to at least 4 people since last Wednesday! That is a testimony that I need to write down the miracles as they happen because they flee so quickly! This week the song she was playing was Nearer my God to Thee. I have been singing it all day, I want to be nearer to Him!
I love to open the scriptures while I wait the few minutes in the chapel. Often while I was the Gospel Doctrine teacher, I would choose the Old testament that I was teaching, and it would open to the perfect message for me to share that week! Oh, that still happens nearly every week, only now I don't have to use it in my Gospel Doctrine lesson. BTW, that is a terrifying calling! This morning that scripture was D&C 1:28. And inasmuch as they were humble they might be made strong, and blessed
from on high, and receive knowledge from time to time.
I want to receive knowledge from on high! I am so grateful for the blessings of heaven! Thank you Heavenly Father!
