This morning I have been guided to study about the Holy Ghost. I was guided to my notes from Women's Conference this spring where president Eyring talked about his little boy, and seeing his eternal potential. I was guided to a talk by Elder Hales in the same spring 2017 spring conference where he talked about personal revelation. I am grateful for the power of the Holy Ghost that directs me! I recognize His power and direction in my life. I was prompted to turn on Music and the Spoken Word to hear this song performed beautifully:
One Person
One person can beat a drum
And make enough noise for ten;
One person can blow a horn
And that little boom
And that little blare
Can make a hundreds others care.
And one person can hold a torch
And light up the sky again.
And one little voice that's squeaking a song,
Can make a million voices strong.
If one person can beat a drum,
And one person can blow a horn,
If one person can hold a torch,
Then one person can change the world!
There may be an army of them
And only a handful of us,
And how can a poor little band fight a mighty regime.
There may be a legion of them,
And only a parcel of us,
But it isn't the size of the fist,
It's the size of a dream!
And make enough noise for ten;
One person can blow a horn
And that little boom
And that little blare
Can make a hundreds others care.
And one person can hold a torch
And light up the sky again.
And one little voice that's squeaking a song,
Can make a million voices strong.
If one person can beat a drum,
And one person can blow a horn,
If one person can hold a torch,
Then one person can change the world!
There may be an army of them
And only a handful of us,
And how can a poor little band fight a mighty regime.
There may be a legion of them,
And only a parcel of us,
But it isn't the size of the fist,
It's the size of a dream!
I want to make a difference in the world.
Yesterday was our dear hero Johnnie Johnson's funeral services. He has been declining quickly over the past few weeks. Brad received a call from Shauna Jo Larkin, his daughter a few weeks back, that he was dying. Just a few days prior on July 24th, he drove his truck to Washington to be in the 24th of July parade. I visited with him, and he shared a tender experience he had just had when after hours of crying and being upset about not being able to get out of his bed, he grabbed the rail of his hospital bed in his home to sit up, and instead of being a rail, it was a hand. He looked to see the Lord. He held the hand of the Lord. at this moment, he put his hand in mine. "This hand, held the hand of the Lord." He wept as he shared that the Lord promised him that he would be ok. He was happy and confident. Happy to be out of his bed that morning, and participating in the parade. He had not been able to put on his slipper/shoes that morning. He had diabetes really bad, and his feet were so swollen, they were bigger than softballs. He had no toes left, they were all swollen into the big round end of his leg. I slid his slippers over them for him. He rode in the parade, and we celebrated that he was there.
Fast forward then maybe two weeks, Shauna Jo called and said her dad was dying that day. We thought that was pretty bold to declare, but we didn't want to miss the opportunity to see him once again. Over the course of that day, Brad and I and Jed all visited him. He was in good spirits, but confined to his bed. His dear wife Judy shared that she "was not ready to let him go." I told her that he would not go then. She was set that he could not leave yet. I knelt by the side of his bed, and kissed his sweet cheek during our short visit. There were others there to visit, so I was brief, but grateful to kiss him and thank him! A few days past, and Brad checked in often on them, visiting. Jed went and video tapped him telling stories for a couple of hours one day. Then one day a few days later, Sophia was crying and wanted to see him. Brad and I took her, but with the number of cars outside, and the note posted about visiting time, we determined I would stay in the car with the others and send Sophia with Brad to check on him. She reported kissing him on the cheek and telling him that we loved him!
Just a few short weeks later, we received word a week ago, that he had passed. They waited a week for his services. Brad drove his truck to the mortuary and then the church. Following the funeral, they put his casket in the back of his truck, and Brad drove it to the cemetery. Brad dedicated the grave. It was a beautiful service. Shauna Jo and her daughter were the only speakers and then the Bishop shared some comments. I am so grateful for that man! Indeed He has changed the world! They asked everyone to stand who had been given something by Johnnie. The entire room stood up! He was amazing! I want to be as kind and generous as he was! I love you Johnnie!
