I am reading a book by Sister Virginia Pearce, in which she challenges us to really identify what we believe.
What do I believe?
She writes that like cleaning out our closets we need to take our beliefs out and dust them off, check them out, inspect to see if they really are true, and decide carefully which ones we are going to give place to in our heart.
I appreciate this as some of my beliefs may be there only because of experiences and maybe they are not truth. Maybe they are only stone walls built, that need to come down. Maybe they are fortifications of protection which my Heavenly Father knows I need. How can I determine which they are?
I know that which is good cometh of God. I know that things that tear down. That ridicule and put down are not of God. I know those discouragements and disappointments come from the adversary! I don't have time or place for those in my heart! Recently sister Joy Jones gave a great talk about not giving time to the enticements of the evil one. She talks about a day she was issued a ticket in a speed trap. She could have given way to the negative enticements, but she didn't. Initially she turned around from going to the temple, then she recognized what was happening, and she turned her car around, and made it to the temple! She shared that she had profound spiritual experience that day in the temple. I know that I too have been falsely led to believe at times that I should not go to the temple.
