What miracles we have witnessed! I am so blessed!
We left at goerge on Saturday a little ahead of planned departure. I was done with Brad telling me to go and not understanding that he was pushing me out. Ok I will go! So I did.
Saturday morning we wanted to be on the road by 8am but....I decided to get up early and make some breakfast burritos so we could have breakfast on the road. I made a lot...more than 30! The night before cute Sophia had picked the tomatoes from our garden and there were lots! They are yummy! We love BLT sandwiches with garden fresh tomatoes. Yum! So I cooked up some bacon to take on the road. Those would be easy if I just found a fresh fruit stand and bought some tomatoes and lettuce.
I started those projects about 3 am but one thing lead to another and by 9 am the kitchen was cleaned and I was finally working seriously towards the car. I think we made it by 9:30.
I had some paver stones to put outside our mesquite office. We had planned to go to SLC and help Haley and Chandler move for a day but they were both out of town, we decided it must not have been that important. So we changed directions and headed towards Yosemite national park instead. That was not even on the original plan but....we went!
Saturday we drive and drove! The road through Nevada is just long and empty! Area 51 is desolate and dry!
I was exhausted by mid afternoon so Sara took over driving. She has her permit but has to have an adult in the front with her. Haha I was so tired! I think she drove 150 miles before I woke up! Days of preparation to leave can do that to a girl!
Saturday night found us driving through Yosemite park! We stopped before the entrance and bought some fresh sweet cherries and postcards. The kids love the "dips" on the road - our own rollercoaster! The state park before Yosemite was beautiful! We took out bikes off and road back to a lake and along a dirt road. It was spectacular! In Yosemite we stopped for an ice cream but the mosquitoes were so thick we jumped back into the rig to eat them so we wouldn't get eaten instead! Haha I wirte this Thursday morning and poor Sophia counted 14 bits on her face yesterday. They are out in groves!!!
We drove through Yosemite, knowing that we wanted to make it to church the next morning at 10 in Groveland which was on the other side at 10 am. We decided because we had heard traffic was super slow to keep going until we were close so we could be there in the morning.
That was a long day! We did see a cute little bear in the park. We were some of the first to see him and stop. By the time we left it was a traffice jam and people are so dumb. I digress. He was a cute bear and we got a fun photo of making memories together with our own animals!
Finally we found some dinner Ina. Little diner. I had a chicken salad. There were lots of foreigners there! Service was slow. To their credit it was after 8 pm. I am sure they had been serving hungry people all day long. We were grateful for the food! We worried about our play toys on our rig. I moved the car as we waited for food because so many were gawking at our bikes!
We backtracked a but to find a camping place. It was on a quiet dirt road and worked great. In fact we went back there after church and hung in our hammocks for a bit Sunday afternoon.
We opted not to go back the 70+ miles to the entrance of Yosemite to battle with the crowds. We moved on towards lake Tahoe.
Through Sacramento and over the hills. That night we found a place to camp near Sly Jenkins lake. The campground was full but we found a back road to Tahoe that had a biking trailhead that worked perfectly! I got up in the morning and went for a beautiful run on a trail. Came back to camp and got everyone going and we went for aountain bike ride ending by riding 8.5 miles around the lake. It was beautiful. The last couple miles I left the team at the lake and I peddled the grind up the canyon road to the rig and drove back down to them. We launched kayacks and had a delightful paddle, swim and wash! ;)
That night we finally camped someplace past Tahoe in the hills. It was about yhree miles from Olympic Park. In the morning we loaded uo and foundthat cute trail there so wr pulled in and had a delightful bike ride through that village. Miracles of the free stickers at the bikenshop amd the fun of riding the golf cart path at the resort even with permission! We stopped inTahoe and bought aome groceries and hammocks. We had mexican dinner at Verdes Mexican Rotisserie. Not great.
Tuesday we mostly drove. We stopped midafternoon someplace CA near a railroad bridge that was super tall and there two hours 3 trains past. The kids played in the river and i wrote postcards to my activity day girls and had a nap ;)
Tueaday night we pulled in the Mokoea (haha sp??) National forest. Oh the miracle of rite Aid and dinner! We had sandwiches about 3 so no one was hungry. We said on the way into whatever town was that maybe we should just had ice cream. We needed gas ans had anlist of a few things incliding returning the hammocks.... Baby wipes, cearel etc. The grocery store looked sketchy and i just had a feelign go to the rite aid instead. Considering what wr needed i pulled in. We foudn the things we needed and ha! Who knew rite aid had dip ice cream complete with cherry Chocolate Chip favorite $1.99 a cone. Perfect!!! Las Deo!
