Family Flexibility/Cohesion Scale Thoughts

I have the privilege of a rather large family. I came from a large family and will choose to focus here on my immediate family where I am the wife and mother. What a blessing! I recognize that hindsight is 2020, and the world as we know it is influenced by the shade, tint, and thickness of the paradigm glasses that I wear. Recognizing this, it is with tender concern that I try to view my immediate family and hope to see through the lenses as my children see and not a virtual reality of a world I hope exists.

My current home quarantined group includes five young people ranging in age from 18 to 8. What a beautiful blessing each one is! My hero husband is my ALL. I love time, smiles, days with him! We cherish time together and to be quarantined together is a blessing from heaven! In our grown-up young people group now living away from home, are four of the most amazing, one in a million, kind of people! We have two beautiful granddaughters who bring joy in every opportunity!

Our family enjoys "adventures" together! We love to bike, hike, ride, BE together! This does not mean we don't find quiet time alone. Sunrise and sunsets often find us scattered, enjoying the magic of the day in our own contemplation.

I would say on the cohesion scale we are cohesive. Celebrating time together. Carving out time from other obligations to explore, conquer, climb that new endeavor.

On the flexibility continuum, we have guideposts for direction which have certain out of bounds lines to keep us from toppling over the cliff edge, however, we also celebrate the path ahead, and know that that detour turn might be the cathedral of beauty we will remember forever! We allow the flexibility and time to explore the canyon, float the river, and enjoy the sunset without the time or constraints of arbitrary calendars forcing our decisions.

I believe that President Russell M. Nelson is encouraging us to be flexibly cohesive in this day of gathering and seeking to HearHim#! We are counseled to listen carefully to the Spirit prompting us to minister in higher holier ways and to be wise and well trained to respond as hands of the Savior Himself. I am so grateful for the blessing of His light in my life! I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I honor, respect, and seek to follow His Light!
