I love the song from Snow White with the seven dwarfs: Heigh-Ho! Heigh-Ho! It's off to work we go, you positively can't go wrong with a Heigh-Ho! Heigh-Ho! Heigh-Ho! For if you're feeling low, just keep on singing all day long Heigh-Ho! Heigh-Ho!
This week two of my five classes have focused on work and family. My Entrepreneur class and my Family Relations class. I would have guessed that the Family Relations class would focus on the importance of not working outside the home, but it has been the opposite of that! The text and discussion has focused so much on the trends of the post Industrialized world and the benefits of work. Post after post from the others in my class and the statistics in the text have shown that especially women should be able to work outside the home. I am tired of hearing it. I am tired of reading about it! Then to turn on the news. The Black Lives Matter riots have not calmed down at all! In fact, just two days ago, a 60-year-old non-participant was driving in Provo, Utah down the street where there were protestors. He innocently tried to turn left and get out of the mess, and was shot! He was in the hospital still yesterday. I pray he will heal.
What a world we find ourselves! This morning at our own breakfast table, the discussion was about how they want to take the Dixie off the mountain, change the name of the college and high school because it refers to the south where there were once slaves. What? So, when the Family Relations text got into the discrimination of women and how they should not be the ones to always stay home with the children, I have just had enough! I believe in the Proclamation on the Family that there is a fundamental difference between men and women! Women are to be nurturers. I will stand as different and apart from the world. I don't regret that I have not worked. Honestly, I am grateful to go to school now, but I do not regret for one minute that my husband went to school and I dropped out! I am so grateful to be the mom to such cute kids! I am grateful to teach them to read and write and do math! I am grateful to have long discussions about history at our kitchen table at all hours of the day! I love to learn! I am a life long learner. I believe in the importance of family and further believe that "the Gathering" that we are to participate in right now, is the return to FAMILY! My Entrepreneur class had two case studies of times when small business owners were pulled from family things and they pushed us to make a decision now how we will handle the situation because it will happen! Even this post will now be postponed so I can go do reading with Stephen who is ready and waiti
ng for me. Family comes first!
ng for me. Family comes first! Talk about a time that required my faith. Oh daily. I am grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am grateful to have an eternal partner who is such an entrepreneur! He is awesome! I love to learn and share with him! He is an attorney, now supporting my desire to go back to school. I love to share what I am learning so we can learn together! I wonder what new business endeavor is right around the corner. Just this week we are working with one of our married sons to open a new business he can run while he goes to law school. We love to encourage innovation. We love to support education. We love to support Family! We are so blessed! We know that as we put the Lord first in our lives, the miracles come! In fact they come almost faster than you can wish it!
I love the quote, about the best time to plant a tree was years ago. But the next best time is today!
I also love this quote from Brigham Young: "Educate a man, you educate a man. You educate a woman; you educate a generation." I love sharing what I am learning with my kids! This week I sent all my married kids this article from BYU Magazine titled Family Work. I don't agree with
the discussion from the others in my Family Relations class, but that is a great article! https://magazine.byu.edu/article/family-work/ I look forward to discussing it with them in a couple weeks when we get to be together as a family!
